Modern Warfare 4 has hundreds of Calling Cards to unlock across Multiplayer, DMZ, and other challenges. Some are earned through normal gameplay, while Elite challenges and animated Mastery rewards take much more work.

If you want to know how to unlock MW4 Calling Cards, track your progress, or collect rare rewards, this guide covers the confirmed challenge sets, reward tiers, and the returning DMZ Beta cosmetics.

How to Unlock Calling Cards in MW4

To see the available Calling Cards, open Career > Challenges > Calling Cards. This menu separates challenges by game mode and Mastery category, so you can find the tasks you want to complete without searching through your entire profile.

Select a Mastery Set to see its individual Calling Card challenges. The menu shows your progress on the right side of the screen, including what you still need to finish. When a challenge is completed, its Calling Card becomes available as a profile cosmetic.

To display an unlocked card, use the Career > Profile customization options. You can also show up to three Calling Cards in your Career Showcase, alongside your chosen Operator and wallpaper. Completing a challenge and displaying its reward are separate steps, so remember to equip the cards you want others to see.

All MW4 Calling Card Categories

MW4 organizes its regular Calling Card challenges into Mastery categories. Each category contains several Mastery Sets, and each set includes its own group of challenges. This makes it possible to work toward smaller collections before chasing the rarest rewards.

The confirmed regular Mastery Sets are listed below.

Mastery CategoryConfirmed Mastery SetsTotal Sets
Multiplayer MasteryObjective, War, Capture Zone, Bomb, Cash, Dog Tag6
DMZ MasteryCombat, Mission, Exfil, Loot, Exploration, FOB6
Shared Mode MasteryCombat, Loadout, Collection, Mobility Course4

These are 16 regular Mastery Sets, not just 16 Calling Cards. For example, the Multiplayer Objective Mastery Set contains six challenges of its own: four tiered challenges and two that are not tiered. Each completed challenge adds another reward to your collection.

Multiplayer Mastery is a good starting point if you mostly play standard matches. DMZ Mastery gives extraction-focused players their own collections, while Shared Mode Mastery covers challenge groups intended to sit outside one single mode's Mastery path.

MW4 Elite Calling Card Challenges

Elite Calling Cards are a separate group of MW4 Mastery challenges. Activision has confirmed 11 named Elite challenge sets across Multiplayer, DMZ, and Campaign. The individual unlock conditions for these sets were not included in the official progression preview, so it would be misleading to list guessed kill counts, win counts, or difficulty rules as facts.

You can find the exact task descriptions inside the Calling Cards challenge menu as they become available on your account.

Multiplayer Elite Challenges

The four confirmed Multiplayer Elite sets are Ground Zero, Winner, Melee, and Executions. These are separate from the regular Multiplayer Objective, War, Capture Zone, Bomb, Cash, and Dog Tag collections.

If you are targeting Multiplayer Elite rewards, start by reviewing all four sets before committing to one. That will help you identify challenges that fit your preferred modes and avoid spending matches on objectives that do not advance your selected Calling Cards.

DMZ Elite Challenges

The four confirmed DMZ Elite sets are Final Showdown, High-Value Escort, King Slayer, and Exterminator. Their precise objectives must be checked in-game rather than assumed from the names.

DMZ uses its own missions, extraction loop, and Forward Operating Base, giving players more than one kind of long-term objective to manage. Before entering Hajin, compare your Calling Card tasks with the missions and other goals you plan to complete during the deployment.

For more on the mode itself, read our MW4 DMZ guide, which explains progression, missions, extraction, and the FOB.

Campaign Elite Challenges

The three confirmed Campaign Elite sets are Veteran Completer, Realism Completer, and YOLO Completer. They belong to the Campaign Elite Mastery category, but Activision has not yet supplied a detailed Calling Card requirement list for each one in its progression overview.

If you are working through the story, our MW4 Campaign guide covers the mission list, difficulty settings, and Campaign rewards. Check your Calling Card menu separately to confirm which Campaign accomplishments count toward each Elite set.

How Tiered Calling Card Challenges Work

Not every MW4 Calling Card is unlocked by doing something just once. Tiered challenges ask you to repeat the same objective until you reach several milestones. Each milestone unlocks a different version of a Calling Card, often changing its colors or overall look.

Activision has confirmed the Victorious! challenge in the Multiplayer Objective Mastery Set. It awards four Calling Card variations as you accumulate Multiplayer wins.

Victorious! TierMultiplayer Wins RequiredReward
Tier 120 winsFirst Calling Card variant
Tier 260 winsSecond Calling Card variant
Tier 3150 winsThird Calling Card variant
Tier 4300 winsFourth Calling Card variant

The important detail is that 300 wins is the final listed milestone for this particular challenge, not the requirement for every Calling Card in MW4. Other tiered challenges may use different goals, while non-tiered challenges have one specific objective.

To avoid wasting time, check whether a challenge has one reward or several reward tiers before you start grinding. A Calling Card you unlock early might only be the first stage of a much longer collection.

How to Unlock Animated Mastery Calling Cards

Animated Mastery Calling Cards are among the main long-term rewards for players who complete entire collections. You do not get the highest-level reward simply by unlocking one difficult Calling Card. You need to finish the related challenges and, eventually, whole Mastery categories.

MW4 uses three completion levels for these rewards.

Mastery LevelWhat You Must CompleteReward
Mastery SetEvery Calling Card challenge in one Mastery SetAnimated Mastery Calling Card
Mastery CategoryEvery Mastery Set in one category, such as Multiplayer MasteryAdditional animated Mastery Calling Card
Overall MasteryAll required Mastery categoriesRarer animated Mastery Calling Card

The best approach is to treat each Mastery Set as a smaller goal. Finish one set, claim its reward, and then work toward completing the remaining sets in that category. Your biggest reward comes from completing the full collection, not from randomly unlocking individual cards.

Calling Card Mastery and weapon camo Mastery are different systems. If you are also grinding rare weapon cosmetics, see our MW4 Mastery Camos guide for the Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone camo paths.

How to Track and Complete Calling Card Challenges Faster

MW4 lets you track up to nine Calling Card challenges at once. Open the Tracked & Near Complete tab to see your selected challenges alongside others that are close to being finished. You can add a challenge to the tracked list from its entry in the Calling Cards menu.

Tracking is useful because many Calling Card goals take several matches or DMZ deployments. Rather than remembering every objective, use the tracked list to decide what to focus on next.

Five Practical Tips for Faster Progress

  • Prioritize near-complete challenges: Finish easy remaining milestones before starting a long grind.
  • Track a mix of goals: Keep some repeatable, long-term challenges alongside objectives you can complete quickly.
  • Group compatible tasks: If two challenges involve the same game mode or action, look for opportunities to advance both during one session.
  • Match your loadout to the objective: For weapon-specific or combat-related tasks, use equipment suited to the requirement shown in the menu.
  • Review progress after each session: Replace completed tracked challenges so none of your nine slots go unused.

For DMZ, check your selected tasks before deploying so you can plan missions, loot routes, and exfil decisions around them. For Multiplayer, work on win-based challenges while keeping a few shorter objectives tracked at the same time. These are planning tips, not guarantees that every challenge can be completed in the same match.

MW4 DMZ Beta Calling Cards and Returning Rewards

MW4 also recognizes eligible players from the original Modern Warfare II DMZ Beta. These rewards are tied to past achievements, not new challenges that you can start from scratch in MW4. To receive them, you must use the same Activision account associated with your original DMZ Beta progress.

The three confirmed returning reward sets are listed below.

Legacy RequirementCalling CardEmblem

MW4 returning DMZ Beta rewards including Beta Squad, DMZ Beta 50 Hours, and DMZ Slither

Can you unlock these by playing MW4 DMZ now? Not by completing the original eligibility requirements for the first time. The conditions relate to what you previously did in the MWII DMZ Beta. If you never earned a qualifying legacy reward, playing new DMZ matches does not recreate that old milestone.

MW4 Calling Cards FAQ

How many Calling Cards are in MW4?

Activision has confirmed hundreds of Calling Cards, but it has not provided a single complete count of every unlockable card. The announced list includes 16 regular Mastery Sets and 11 named Elite sets, each containing its own challenge content.

What is the difference between regular and Elite Calling Cards?

Regular Calling Cards are grouped into Multiplayer, DMZ, and Shared Mode Mastery Sets. Elite Calling Cards have separate Multiplayer, DMZ, and Campaign collections, including sets such as Winner, Final Showdown, and Realism Completer. Check each challenge in-game for its exact unlock condition.

How do you get animated Mastery Calling Cards?

Complete every Calling Card challenge within a Mastery Set for an animated reward. Complete all sets within a category for another animated card, then finish all required categories to earn the rarest overall Mastery reward.

Can you track multiple Calling Card challenges at once?

Yes. You can track up to nine challenges in the Tracked & Near Complete menu. This is also where you can check which uncompleted tasks are closest to their next milestone.

Are MW4 Calling Card challenges available in Warzone?

The MW4 Calling Cards menu includes a Warzone category, but the official preview does not provide a full Warzone Calling Card challenge list. MW4 progression integrates with Call of Duty: Warzone from Season 1, so check the in-game menu for mode-specific Calling Card requirements when those challenges become available.
