Modern Warfare 4 brings a new camo grind across Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone, but the progression system is different from simply completing three separate sets of basic weapon challenges. Every weapon has a shared Camo Track before the grind branches into mode-specific Mastery Camos.
MW4 has nine mode-specific Mastery Camos, with three for each main mode, plus four separate Prestige Mastery Camos. That gives us 13 revealed Mastery Camos in total so far. Exact unlock challenges have not been announced yet, so this guide covers every revealed camo and explains how the new system works based on the information available so far.
How the MW4 Camo System Works
Modern Warfare 4 connects its weapon camo progression across Multiplayer, DMZ, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Each weapon has a
Camo Track that you progress across these experiences before reaching its Mastery Camo Challenges.
Once you reach the Mastery stage, the progression splits into separate Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone paths. Each mode has three Mastery Camos, giving MW4
nine mode-specific Mastery Camos in total.
- Step 1: Progress a weapon's main Camo Track.
- Step 2: Unlock that weapon's Mastery Camo Challenges.
- Step 3: Complete Mastery Challenges in Multiplayer, DMZ, or Warzone.
- Step 4: Work through the three Mastery Camos available for that mode.
The important part is that the basic camo journey is connected across the three experiences. You are not looking at three completely separate starting grinds before you can begin working toward Mastery rewards.
Activision has not yet revealed the exact base camo challenges, required weapon counts, or the conditions needed to unlock each Mastery tier. Those details will be added here as soon as the full MW4 camo progression system is confirmed.
All MW4 Mastery Camos
There are currently
nine mode-specific MW4 Mastery Camos across Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone. A separate set of four Prestige Mastery Camos has also been shown, bringing the currently revealed total to
13 Mastery Camos.

Several familiar Call of Duty camo names return in new forms. Polyatomic and Orion return for Multiplayer as
Polyatomic Reforged and
Orion Reforged, while the classic Damascus name returns through the Warzone-exclusive
Damascus Reforged.
MW4 Multiplayer Mastery Camos
Multiplayer has three confirmed Mastery Camos:
Mercurial Drift, Polyatomic Reforged, and Orion Reforged.
These belong specifically to the Multiplayer Mastery path. Activision has not yet revealed the challenges required for each stage, so you should not assume that older Modern Warfare camo requirements will return unchanged.
Mercurial Drift
Mercurial Drift is the first confirmed Multiplayer Mastery Camo shown for Modern Warfare 4. It is a completely new camo name rather than a returning design from an older Modern Warfare game.
Its exact unlock requirement has not been announced yet.
Polyatomic Reforged
Polyatomic Reforged brings back the Polyatomic name used in Modern Warfare II. MW4 uses a redesigned version of the camo as part of its Multiplayer Mastery progression.
The returning name does not mean the old Polyatomic requirements are returning. MW4 has its own Camo Track and Mastery Challenge system, and the exact Polyatomic Reforged challenge is still unknown.
Orion Reforged
Orion Reforged is the third revealed Multiplayer Mastery Camo. Orion originally served as one of the major completion rewards in Modern Warfare II, but MW4 gives it a new Reforged design.
Activision has not confirmed how many weapons or previous Mastery Camos will be needed before Orion Reforged can be unlocked.
MW4 DMZ Mastery Camos
DMZ returns as a major part of Modern Warfare 4, and this time it has a complete weapon Mastery Camo path of its own.
The three confirmed MW4 DMZ Mastery Camos are:
Chiral
Chiral is the first revealed DMZ Mastery Camo. It is one of the new designs created specifically for MW4's camo progression system.
Its exact DMZ challenge requirements remain unconfirmed.
Ripple Tide
Ripple Tide is the second Mastery Camo in the DMZ showcase. Like Chiral, it currently has no published unlock challenge or weapon requirement.
We will update this section once Activision explains how DMZ weapon kills, missions, AI eliminations, extraction objectives, or other activities are used in the camo grind.
Helio
Helio completes the three-camo DMZ Mastery set revealed so far. It is expected to be one of the major long-term DMZ weapon rewards, but the exact progression required to reach it has not been announced.
This is also the first Modern Warfare release to give the returning DMZ experience such a clearly defined Mastery Camo path from the start.
MW4 Warzone Mastery Camos
Call of Duty: Warzone also receives three MW4-era Mastery Camos. The confirmed Warzone camos are
Parallax, Damascus Reforged, and Empyros.
These are separate from the Multiplayer and DMZ Mastery paths, so players who want every MW4 mode-specific Mastery Camo will eventually need to complete challenges across all three modes.
Parallax
Parallax is the first Warzone Mastery Camo revealed for the MW4 era. It is a new camo rather than a returning Modern Warfare completion reward.
The Warzone challenge needed to unlock it has not yet been revealed.
Damascus Reforged
Damascus Reforged is one of the most recognizable names in the entire MW4 camo lineup. The original Damascus was the major Multiplayer completion camo in Modern Warfare 2019, but its MW4 version is part of the
Warzone Mastery path.
That means players should not expect the old MW2019 Damascus grind to return unchanged. Damascus Reforged is tied to MW4's new camo system and will have its own requirements.
Empyros
Empyros is the third confirmed Warzone Mastery Camo. Its unlock challenge has not been published yet, and Activision has not confirmed how the three Warzone Mastery tiers will depend on one another.
MW4 Prestige Mastery Camos
The nine Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone camos are not the only high-level weapon cosmetics shown for MW4. A separate
Prestige Mastery Camo showcase includes
four Pyroclast camos.
The four currently revealed Prestige Mastery Camos are:
- Pyroclast
- Pyroclast Verge
- Pyroclast Scatter
- Pyroclast Cascade
These should be treated separately from the nine core mode-specific Mastery Camos. When the Prestige set is included,
13 MW4 Mastery Camos have now been revealed in total.
MW4 also introduces both Regular Prestige and Classic Prestige for player progression, but Activision has not yet explained the exact relationship between Prestige progression and each Prestige Mastery Camo unlock.
Pyroclast
Pyroclast is the base camo in MW4's revealed Prestige Mastery set. It establishes the Pyroclast visual theme that continues across the other Prestige Mastery variants.
Its exact unlock requirement and connection to weapon or player Prestige progression have not yet been revealed.
Pyroclast Verge
Pyroclast Verge is another Prestige Mastery Camo shown as part of the Pyroclast collection. It uses its own variation of the overall Pyroclast design rather than being one of the Multiplayer, DMZ, or Warzone Mastery Camos.
Activision has not yet confirmed what Prestige level, weapon progress, or challenge is required to unlock Pyroclast Verge.
Pyroclast Scatter
Pyroclast Scatter is the third revealed variation in the MW4 Prestige Mastery Camo set. Like the other Pyroclast designs, it appears separately from the nine standard mode-specific Mastery Camos.
The exact unlock conditions for Pyroclast Scatter remain unknown.
Pyroclast Cascade
Pyroclast Cascade is the fourth Prestige Mastery Camo shown in the MW4 showcase. Its inclusion brings the currently revealed Prestige Mastery collection to
four Pyroclast camos.
Its exact challenge and Prestige requirements have not yet been confirmed.

Once the Prestige Mastery requirements are confirmed, we will update this section with the exact unlock path for all four Pyroclast camos.
How to Unlock MW4 Mastery Camos
The complete unlock requirements are not available yet, but Activision has revealed enough of the system to understand the basic progression path.
1. Progress the Weapon Camo Track
Start by progressing the Camo Track for the weapon you want to complete. The weapon camo journey spans Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone instead of treating every mode as a completely isolated starting point.
2. Unlock Mastery Camo Challenges
Progressing the Camo Track eventually opens the weapon's Mastery Camo Challenges. This is where MW4's higher-level camo grind begins.
3. Complete Mode-Specific Mastery Challenges
After reaching the Mastery stage, you can work through challenges connected to Multiplayer, DMZ, or Warzone. Each mode has three Mastery Camos to earn.
4. Complete the Full Mastery Grind
Players chasing every mode-specific camo will need to work through all three main mode paths. The exact number of weapons required for the later Mastery tiers has not been announced.

Can You Unlock MW4 Mastery Camos in the Beta?
Activision has revealed the MW4 Mastery Camos during the Beta period, but it has
not confirmed that the full Mastery Camo grind is available in the Beta. The reveal showed the overall Camo Track system and the Mastery rewards without publishing the complete challenge list.
Beta progression currently gives players an early chance to use MW4 weapons, unlock attachments, and earn dedicated Beta rewards. If you are playing before launch, see our
MW4 Beta Rewards guide for the rewards that are currently confirmed.
Modern Warfare 4 launches on
October 23, 2026, and we expect the full camo progression requirements to become much clearer before or around launch.
Which Classic Camos Return in MW4?
Three of the revealed MW4 Mastery Camos use names from earlier Modern Warfare games.
- Polyatomic Reforged brings back Polyatomic from Modern Warfare II.
- Orion Reforged brings back Orion from Modern Warfare II.
- Damascus Reforged brings back Damascus from Modern Warfare 2019.
All three are new MW4 versions. Their old unlock requirements should not be used as a guide for the new grind because Modern Warfare 4 introduces a different Camo Track and mode-specific Mastery system.
One particularly important change is that
Damascus Reforged is a Warzone Mastery Camo, while Polyatomic Reforged and Orion Reforged belong to Multiplayer.
