The Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta is live now, and the full Player Rank 1-30 weapon pool can now be unlocked. The Beta includes 22 weapons across nine weapon classes: 19 normal Multiplayer weapons plus the Axion, Sang 9mm, and Wz. 55 Striga with restricted access.

The Open Beta also launched with a major weapon balance pass aimed at slightly increasing TTK. Damage profiles changed across many guns, Snipers and Marksman Rifles received more flinch, and attachment penalties were reduced. This guide covers every MW4 Beta weapon, unlock requirement, max Weapon Level, Apex Attachment, and the latest weapon changes.

For everything else in the test, check our complete Modern Warfare 4 Beta guide.

How Many Weapons Are in the MW4 Beta?

There are 22 weapons available across the Modern Warfare 4 Beta. These come from the 33 weapons planned for MW4 at launch and cover every major weapon class.

However, only 19 are part of the normal Multiplayer progression pool. The other three have restricted Beta access.

  • 19 standard Multiplayer weapons that can be unlocked through normal Beta progression
  • 2 Default Loadout-only weapons: Axion and Sang 9mm
  • 1 Campaign-only weapon: Wz. 55 Striga
  • 22 total weapons accessible somewhere in the Beta

The Open Beta Player Rank cap is now Level 30, which means all 19 standard Multiplayer weapons can be unlocked for normal Custom Loadout use.

There is still an important difference between using a weapon and unlocking it for your Custom Loadouts. Default Loadouts allow new players to use the Kastov 762, .50 GS, Signal 50, Axion, and Sang 9mm before or without their normal Custom Loadout access.

The Beta arsenal includes six Assault Rifles, four SMGs, one Shotgun, two LMGs, two Marksman Rifles, two Sniper Rifles, three Pistols, one Launcher, and one Melee weapon.

The Open Beta is live now, so the Kastov 762, .50 GS, Patriot XMR, X-58 Nyx, and Signal .50 can all be unlocked through normal progression by reaching their required Player Rank.

Default Loadouts can still give you earlier access. The Assault Default Loadout includes the Kastov 762 and Sang 9mm, the Breacher Loadout includes the .50 GS, and the Sniper Default Loadout includes the Signal 50 and Axion.

Using a rank-locked weapon through a Default Loadout does not unlock it for your own Custom Loadouts or provide early normal Gunsmith access.

Vault Edition players can also access the Kastov 762 through the Signature Weapon Collection without waiting for its normal Rank 21 unlock.

The longest Beta weapon grind belongs to the Signal .50 at 73 Weapon Levels, followed by the KG-7 Vulcan at 72 and Kastov 762 at 71.

Latest MW4 Open Beta Weapon Balance Changes

Infinity Ward launched the Open Beta with another major weapon balance pass. The goal is a slightly longer overall TTK without simply increasing base player health.

Many guns now deal less damage per shot in specific ranges, while some effective ranges were extended to keep weapons useful at distance. Snipers and Marksman Rifles also received more flinch when taking fire.
Weapon / Class Important Open Beta Changes
Sniper Rifles All Snipers now receive 28% more flinch when taking damage.
KG-7 Vulcan Maximum damage range increased from 56.8m to 67.5m, while its lower-torso multiplier was slightly reduced.
Signal .50 Upper-torso damage multiplier was heavily reduced, making upper-body placement less forgiving.
Kastov 762 Maximum, medium, and minimum damage were reduced. Its maximum damage range increased slightly, while the Kastov 545 Apex received a major range reduction.
Han 86 Maximum damage dropped from 26 to 22, but its maximum damage range increased from 23.5m to 28.4m.
M4 Maximum damage dropped from 28 to 24, while its damage profile was simplified and minimum damage increased. The M4 Hurricane Apex was also rebalanced.
Hyeon Burst Base damage was reduced across its damage profile. Hyeon Hyperburst also received shorter effective ranges.
Patriot XMR Damage was reduced, but its effective ranges were extended and its headshot multiplier increased.
Marksman Rifles All Marksman Rifles now receive 17% more flinch. The MAR-9 and Oris 8.6 also received individual damage and range adjustments.
FiNN LMG The base FiNN gained better damage range and stronger minimum damage, while the FiNN Adverse Apex was significantly reduced in damage and range.
Type 73 Base damage and effective ranges were reduced. The Type 73 Assault Apex also received lower damage.
PPSh-41, ISO Nightshade & X-58 Nyx All three SMGs received substantial damage-profile changes designed to reduce overly fast kills while reshaping their effective ranges.
.50 GS & Krait P68 The .50 GS received lower medium-range damage and weaker body multipliers. The Krait P68 gained higher base damage at several ranges but lost some bonus multipliers.
Rezi 12 Shotgun and slug ranges were adjusted, with the slug configurations losing much of their extreme-range effectiveness.
PILA Lock-on radius was increased.
The update also changed standard attachments. Handling and Mobility penalties were reduced across Barrel, Magazine, Muzzle, Stock, and Underbarrel attachments, making more builds usable without sacrificing as much movement or handling.

Overpressured Rounds now inflict slightly more flinch, while the Aim Grip no longer reduces ADS movement speed.

These changes are important if you are following loadouts created during Early Access. Some weapons now have very different damage breakpoints and effective ranges.

MW4 Beta Weekend One Weapon Unlocks

Weekend One was capped at Player Rank 20. Players could unlock 14 standard Multiplayer weapons for normal Custom Loadout use within that progression range.

Those weapons were:

  • Han 86 - Immediately
  • ISO Nightshade - Immediately
  • Rezi 12 - Immediately
  • FiNN LMG - Immediately
  • MAR-9 - Immediately
  • KG-7 Vulcan - Immediately
  • Krait P68 - Immediately
  • PILA - Immediately
  • Combat Knife - Immediately
  • Type 73 - Player Rank 5
  • M4 - Player Rank 9
  • PPSh-41 - Player Rank 11
  • Oris 8.6 - Player Rank 14
  • Hyeon Burst - Player Rank 18

Create-a-Class unlocks at Player Rank 4. Players returning from Weekend One keep their Beta progression and can continue leveling toward Rank 30 during the Open Beta.

Default Loadouts Can Give You Weapons Early

Even during the Open Beta, Default Loadouts are useful when starting from a low Player Rank because they include several weapons before their normal progression unlock.

  • Kastov 762 appears in the Assault Default Loadout before its Rank 21 unlock.
  • Sang 9mm is paired with the Kastov 762 in the Assault Default Loadout.
  • .50 GS appears in the Breacher Default Loadout before its Rank 23 unlock.
  • Signal 50 appears in the Sniper Default Loadout from Rank 3 before its Rank 30 unlock.
  • Axion also appears in the Sniper Default Loadout.

Rank-locked weapons used this way cannot be fully customized through your own Custom Loadout until you meet their normal unlock requirement.

The Axion and Sang 9mm are different because they never receive normal Gunsmith access during the Beta.

MW4 Open Beta Rank 21-30 Weapon Unlocks

The Open Beta raises the Player Rank cap to Level 30, making the final five standard Multiplayer weapons available through normal progression.
Player Rank Weapon Class
21 Kastov 762 Assault Rifle
23 .50 GS Pistol
25 Patriot XMR Assault Rifle
27 X-58 Nyx Submachine Gun
30 Signal .50 Sniper Rifle
All five unlocks are live now. Reaching Rank 30 gives you access to the Signal .50 for normal Custom Loadouts and completes the Beta's standard weapon progression.

Rank 30 also awards the Beta Forged Han 86 Weapon Blueprint, one of the eight main Beta progression rewards.

For every limited reward and its required level, see our MW4 Beta Rewards guide.

Default Loadout and Campaign-Only MW4 Beta Weapons

Three of the 22 Beta weapons cannot be unlocked for normal Gunsmith use during the Beta.

Axion

The Axion Assault Rifle is available through the Sniper Default Loadout. It is a .300 Blackout rifle with a fast cyclic rate and moderate recoil.

Activision lists its Apex Attachment as the Axion Crusader, a receiver conversion that turns the rifle into a more compact, high-mobility setup with an integrated saw stock and side grip.

However, the Axion does not have normal Gunsmith access during the Beta. This means the Axion Crusader is part of the weapon's full progression system but cannot actually be unlocked or equipped in the Beta.

Sang 9mm

The Sang 9mm appears in the Assault Default Loadout alongside the Kastov 762. It is a lightweight 9x19mm service pistol focused on fast handling and controllability.

Its Apex Attachment is called Sang 9&12. It adds a single-shot 12-gauge underbarrel chamber, giving the pistol a powerful emergency close-range shot.

Like the Axion Crusader, Sang 9&12 is not usable during the Beta because the Sang 9mm does not have normal Gunsmith or Apex progression access.

Wz. 55 Striga

The Wz. 55 Striga is an SMG available only while playing the Entrenched Campaign mission. It combines strong mobility and recoil control with a slower firing rate.

Activision lists its Apex Attachment only as [CLASSIFIED]. Because the Striga is Campaign-only during the Beta, players cannot access its normal Gunsmith or Apex progression.

MW4 Vault Edition Signature Weapons

The Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition Signature Weapon Collection gives owners immediate Beta access to five base weapons and their special Blueprints.

This can bypass the normal Player Rank requirement for weapons such as the Kastov 762 and Oris 8.6.
Weapon Normal Unlock Signature Blueprint Included Apex
Kastov 762 Player Rank 21 Voltspine Kastov Arc
ISO Nightshade Immediately La Sombra Venenosa ISO Trace
Rezi 12 Immediately Shattered Code Rezi 12 Enforcer
Oris 8.6 Player Rank 14 Volt-Edge Oris 8.6 Razor
Combat Knife Immediately Sombra Besada None
The main progression advantage is immediate access to the Kastov 762 without first reaching Rank 21.

Vault Edition players can also use the Oris 8.6 without waiting for its normal Rank 14 requirement.

How to Unlock Weapons in the MW4 Beta

Most MW4 Beta weapons are unlocked by increasing your Player Rank. Every Multiplayer match awards XP, and additional weapons become available as you progress toward Level 30.

There are four main ways to access weapons during the Beta:

  • Player Rank: Unlock standard weapons by progressing from Rank 1 to 30.
  • Immediate weapons: Several weapons are available without a Player Rank requirement.
  • Vault Edition: Immediately access the five Signature Collection weapons.
  • Default and restricted access: Use rank-locked weapons early through Default Loadouts, use Axion and Sang 9mm through their specific Default Loadouts, and use Wz. 55 Striga in the Campaign.

Create-a-Class becomes available at Player Rank 4. Once unlocked, you can build Custom Loadouts using the weapons, Equipment, Perks, Field Upgrades, and Killstreaks you have earned.

How MW4 Weapon Progression Works

Player Rank and Weapon Level are two different progression systems in the Beta.

Player Rank unlocks new base weapons and other gameplay items. Weapon Levels are earned by using individual guns and unlock attachments for those weapons.

MW4 also cuts down repetitive attachment grinding. Each compatible attachment only needs to be unlocked once. Once earned, the same attachment becomes available on every other weapon that supports it.

  • Increase Player Rank to unlock new base weapons.
  • Use a weapon to increase its Weapon Level.
  • Unlock compatible attachments once and use them on other supported weapons.
  • Fully level supported weapons to earn their Apex Attachments.

The max Weapon Levels vary heavily. The Krait P68 stops at Level 34, while Primary Weapons can require more than 70 Weapon Levels to fully complete.

The Open Beta attachment update also reduced many Handling and Mobility penalties. This means previously unlocked attachments may now fit into different builds without slowing your weapon as much as they did during Early Access.

All MW4 Beta Apex Attachments

Apex Attachments are special weapon modifications normally unlocked by fully leveling supported weapons. They are equipped separately from standard Gunsmith attachments and do not consume a normal attachment slot.

Instead of simply increasing a stat, Apex Attachments can change the weapon's firing mode, ammunition, utility, or entire combat role. For a deeper explanation of the system, see our MW4 Apex Attachments guide.
Weapon Apex Attachment What It Does
Han 86 Han X20 Skybreaker Adds a 20mm airburst launcher that detonates rounds at a selected distance.
M4 M4 Hurricane Converts the M4 into a top-loading 5.7x28mm platform with high capacity, mobility, and fire rate.
Hyeon Burst Hyeon Auto Converts the rifle to rapid fully automatic fire.
Hyeon Burst Hyeon Hyperburst Uses an extremely fast three-round burst followed by controlled automatic fire.
Kastov 762 Kastov 545 Converts the rifle to 5.45x39mm for smoother handling and faster follow-up shots.
Kastov 762 Kastov Arc Adds an RF disruption system that can affect infantry, electronics, and vehicles.
Patriot XMR Patriot XMR Volt Adds an underbarrel launcher that fires a spread of high-voltage darts.
Axion Axion Crusader Compact high-mobility receiver conversion. Listed by Activision, but not usable during the Beta because Axion has no Beta Gunsmith access.
ISO Nightshade ISO Trace Uses RFID ammunition to track damaged enemies through the integrated optic.
PPSh-41 PPSh-41 Ember Fires pyrotechnic projectiles that leave a short-lived burning area.
X-58 Nyx X-58 Void Improves stealth by hiding enemy death markers and reducing directional hit information.
Wz. 55 Striga [CLASSIFIED] Listed by Activision but unavailable during the Beta because the weapon is Campaign-only.
Rezi 12 Rezi 12 Enforcer Adds pump-action cycling and explosive slugs.
FiNN LMG FiNN Adverse Greatly increases fire rate but can overheat during sustained fire.
Type 73 Type 73 Assault Adds a top-mounted magazine loaded with explosive rounds.
MAR-9 MAR-9 Auto Converts the semi-automatic Marksman Rifle to fully automatic fire.
Oris 8.6 Oris 8.6 Razor Adds rapidly deployable kunai for close-range stealth engagements.
KG-7 Vulcan KG-9 Drillcharge Adds side-mounted Drill Charges that burrow into surfaces before detonating.
Signal .50 Signal 50 Inferno Adds .50 Cal incendiary ammunition with increased vehicle and Killstreak damage.
Krait P68 Krait P68 Commando Adds a CQB knife grip that improves melee damage and lunge while helping recoil control.
.50 GS GS Magna Converts the .50 GS into a fully automatic sidearm.
Sang 9mm Sang 9&12 Adds a single-shot 12-gauge underbarrel chamber. Listed by Activision, but not usable during the Beta because Sang 9mm has no Beta Gunsmith access.
The Axion, Sang 9mm, and Wz. 55 Striga have Apex Attachments listed in Activision's weapon intel, but players cannot access them during the Beta because those weapons do not have normal Beta Gunsmith access.

The PILA and Combat Knife do not use the Apex Attachment system.

Several usable Apex Attachments were also directly affected by Open Beta weapon balancing, including the Kastov 545, M4 Hurricane, Hyeon Hyperburst, MAR-9 Auto, FiNN Adverse, Type 73 Assault, and Rezi slug configurations.

Gunny and the MW4 Firing Range

Gunny is an optional build recommendation system inside Create-a-Class. It creates weapon setups using attachments you have already unlocked.

The recommendations focus on three general engagement styles:

  • Short Range
  • Balanced
  • Long Range

Gunny updates its available builds as you unlock more attachments. You can use its recommendation as-is or manually change any part of the setup afterward.

The Firing Range lets you test builds before entering Multiplayer. This is especially useful after the Open Beta balance changes because damage ranges, recoil, handling penalties, and several Apex setups have changed.

MW4 Beta Weapons in Warzone Zodiac Resurgence

The Open Beta also includes Warzone Resurgence on Zodiac, but its weapon system does not work exactly like Multiplayer.

There are no Custom Loadout drops in the Beta version of Zodiac Resurgence. Instead, players use hand-built Default Loadouts and MW4 weapons found as ground loot.

Warzone also has separate weapon tuning. Damage ranges, bullet velocity, ADS speed, sprint-to-fire speed, mobility, and overall TTK have been adjusted specifically for Resurgence.

This means a weapon's performance in Multiplayer does not automatically translate directly to Zodiac even when the same base weapon appears in both modes.

  • MW4 weapons appear as ground loot and Default Loadout weapons.
  • Custom Loadouts are disabled in the Zodiac Beta.
  • Warzone uses separate weapon tuning for several important stats.
  • Your Multiplayer Rank 21-30 weapon unlocks do not give you a normal Custom Loadout drop in Zodiac.

Do MW4 Beta Weapon Levels Carry Over?

No. Player Rank, weapon unlocks, Weapon Levels, and other normal Beta progression reset when the Modern Warfare 4 Beta ends.

Your weapon progression is only for the Beta. You will start the normal progression grind again when Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026.

Eligible Beta cosmetic rewards do carry over. Permanent Beta Rewards remain tied to your Activision Account and become available in the full game at launch.

The final Level 30 progression reward is the Beta Forged Han 86 Weapon Blueprint.

Which MW4 Beta Weapon Is Best?

The Open Beta weapon meta has changed again following the latest TTK and weapon balance update.

Several Early Access favorites received lower damage, new damage ranges, or weaker body multipliers. Snipers and Marksman Rifles are also easier to disrupt now because they receive more flinch when shot.

At the same time, weapons such as the FiNN LMG and Krait P68 received improvements in parts of their damage profiles, so the update was not a simple blanket nerf.

For current rankings, loadouts, and recommendations by playstyle, see our Best Guns in the MW4 Beta: Current Meta & Loadouts guide.

Does every MW4 Beta weapon have an Apex Attachment?

No. The PILA and Combat Knife do not use Apex Attachments. Activision lists the Axion Crusader, Sang 9&12, and a [CLASSIFIED] Apex for the Wz. 55 Striga, but those upgrades cannot be accessed during the Beta because the weapons do not have normal Beta Gunsmith access.

Can you use your Multiplayer loadout in Zodiac Resurgence?
