The fastest way to level up in the MW4 Beta is to combine Daily Challenges with high-action objective modes and keep earning useful score throughout every match. The Open Beta has a maximum Player Level of Level 30, giving everyone access to the complete Beta progression track.

Warzone Zodiac is now another confirmed leveling option. Infinity Ward increased Player XP in both Zodiac Resurgence playlists, while Casual Resurgence received a massive 240% increase to Weapon XP.

If you are starting late or only have a few hours to play, this guide covers the best ways to earn MW4 Beta XP quickly and reach Level 30 before the Beta ends on September 1 at 10 AM PT.

Fastest Way to Level Up in the MW4 Beta

For most players focused specifically on Player Level, our fastest reliable route is:

  • Complete your Daily Challenges for bonus Player XP.
  • Reroll bad Daily Challenges that would slow down your session.
  • Play Hardpoint, Domination, and Kill Confirmed whenever possible.
  • Use Open Moshpit when you want a consistent rotation of high-action 6v6 modes.
  • Play the objective instead of focusing only on your K/D.
  • Use a loadout you perform consistently with so you spend more time earning kills and score.
  • Stack challenges, kills, objectives, Equipment, Field Upgrades, and Killstreaks in the same matches.
  • Mix in Zodiac Resurgence if you perform well in Warzone, as both Zodiac playlists now award confirmed Player XP.

There is still no official Activision chart showing an exact XP-per-minute winner between Multiplayer, Ground War, and Zodiac. For that reason, we still prefer objective-heavy 6v6 for a predictable Level 30 grind.

If your priority is Weapon XP rather than Player Level, the answer changes. Casual Zodiac Resurgence is now especially valuable after Infinity Ward increased its Weapon XP gains by 240%.

MW4 Beta Level Cap and Progression

The maximum Player Level is now Level 30 during the free Open Beta.

Weekend 1 was capped at Level 20. Players who already participated keep their existing progression and can continue toward Level 30, while new Open Beta players can start at Level 1 and complete the entire progression track.
Beta Period Level Cap Status
Weekend 1 Early Access Level 20 Ended
Weekend 2 Open Beta Level 30 Live
Multiplayer matches and Zodiac Resurgence can both earn Player XP toward your Beta progression. As you rank up, you unlock weapons, Equipment, Perks, Field Upgrades, Killstreaks, and Beta rewards.

One of your first goals should be Level 4, which unlocks Create a Class for Multiplayer. From there, you can build your own loadout instead of relying only on Default Loadouts.

Reaching Level 30 also completes the main level-based Beta reward track. If you want the full reward list without turning this guide into another rewards article, see our MW4 Beta Rewards guide.

Best Ways to Level Up Fast in the MW4 Beta

1. Complete Your Daily Challenges First

Daily Challenges should be the first thing you check when you log in.

They provide bonus Player XP and can often be completed while you are already playing normal Multiplayer matches. The best approach is to look at all your challenges before queueing and build a loadout that lets you progress several at the same time.

For example, if your challenges involve a certain weapon class, Equipment type, or Killstreak, equip those items before your first match instead of remembering halfway through your session.

MW4 also lets you reroll Daily Challenges. If one challenge requires a playstyle that is going to take too long or hurt your normal performance, replace it and continue grinding something more efficient.

Once your Daily Challenges are finished, shift your focus toward high-action matches and constant objective involvement.

2. Play Open Moshpit for Consistent 6v6 Action

One of the easiest ways to simplify the XP grind during the Open Beta is to queue Open Moshpit.

Open Moshpit includes:

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Domination
  • Hardpoint
  • Kill Confirmed

That is a strong leveling rotation because three of the four modes give you clear objectives to play around, while Team Deathmatch still keeps the match focused on frequent combat.

The Beta also has dedicated playlists for modes including Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy, Inflation, and Hijack. If a mode you perform particularly well in is available separately, you do not have to rely only on Moshpit.

For pure Player Level grinding, we prefer modes that keep you alive, moving, fighting, and interacting with objectives instead of formats with long periods of downtime.

3. Prioritize Hardpoint, Domination, and Kill Confirmed

If you can choose your preferred mode, we would start with Hardpoint, Domination, and Kill Confirmed.

Mode Leveling Rating Why We Like It
Hardpoint Excellent Constant fights around one active objective
Domination Excellent Captures, defenses, and predictable combat zones
Kill Confirmed Excellent Kills plus constant tag collection
Hijack Very Good Objective actions and frequent fights around the Data Spike
Team Deathmatch Good Simple and fast, but fewer objective actions
Inflation Situational Strong if you perform well, less consistent for pure grinding
Search & Destroy Situational One-life rounds create more downtime
These ratings are our leveling recommendations rather than official XP-per-minute values. Your own performance still matters more than blindly forcing a mode you are bad at.

Kill Confirmed currently has a 75-point score limit, giving each match plenty of room for kills, confirms, and denies before it ends.

4. Actually Play the Objective

Choosing Hardpoint or Domination does not help much if you spend the entire game on the opposite side of the map chasing kills.

MW4's Smart Streak system also rewards objective involvement. Capturing a Domination flag, holding a Hardpoint, and planting the Data Spike in Hijack can contribute toward your Killstreak Meter.

Your ideal Hardpoint game is not ten minutes of sitting still on the point. Rotate with the objective, win nearby gunfights, hold useful angles, use Equipment, and keep contributing to the team.

For Domination, fight around flags instead of wandering through empty areas. In Kill Confirmed, collect tags whenever it is reasonably safe instead of treating the mode like Team Deathmatch.

5. Stack as Many Useful Actions as Possible

Fast leveling is really about getting more useful actions into every minute you play.

A strong Multiplayer match can progress several things at once:

  • Player Level XP
  • Daily Challenges
  • Weapon progression
  • Objective score
  • Equipment usage
  • Field Upgrade usage
  • Killstreaks
  • Beta reward progression

Do not spend several matches completing one easy challenge if you could have combined it with two others.

The same applies to loadouts. If a Daily Challenge needs Assault Rifle kills and another needs a specific Tactical, build one class that handles both.

6. Favor Maps With Frequent Engagements

Map choice can change how productive a match feels.

Silkworm has dense shops, apartments, and alleyways that create frequent close-range fights. Cachette has compact interiors, containers, rooftops, and many flanking routes, which also keeps players moving into combat quickly.

Larger or more open maps can still produce excellent games, especially if you know the routes. However, if you constantly spend time running back toward the fight after each death, your overall activity drops.

When map voting gives you a choice, consider the map where you can consistently find enemies and contribute to objectives instead of simply picking your favorite visual setting.

7. Use a Loadout You Can Perform With

Your leveling setup does not need to be the most complicated meta build in the Beta.

Use a weapon you can consistently get kills with, then build around mobility, survivability, and the type of fights you expect to take. A theoretically perfect weapon that you cannot control will slow your progression more than a slightly weaker gun that you use well.

Try to use your Tactical, Lethal, Field Upgrade, and Killstreaks instead of leaving them unused for half the match.

For current weapon recommendations and loadouts, check our Best Guns in the MW4 Beta guide.

8. Use Zodiac When It Fits Your XP Goal

Zodiac Resurgence now gives confirmed Player XP and Weapon XP, so Warzone is no longer just a side activity if you are trying to progress during the Beta.

Infinity Ward increased XP gains in both available Zodiac playlists:

Zodiac Mode Player XP Increase Weapon XP Increase
Resurgence Quads +55% +13%
Casual Resurgence Quads +46% +240%
For Player Level XP, standard Resurgence received the larger increase at 55%. However, there is still no official XP-per-hour comparison proving that it beats strong 6v6 objective play.

For Weapon XP, Casual Resurgence is much more interesting. Its Weapon XP gains were increased by 240%, making it one of the most attractive Beta options if you want to work on individual weapon levels.

Zodiac does not allow Custom Loadouts during the Beta, so you will need to use its Default Loadouts and curated MW4 ground loot.

For a complete breakdown of the map, loadouts, playlists, and Beta systems, see our MW4 Warzone Zodiac Beta guide.

9. Check Your Progression Between Matches

Do not grind blindly.

Open Career Profile > Progression to see your Player Level, current XP, upcoming unlocks, and completed progression items.

This is also a good time to check whether a Daily Challenge finished, whether another challenge needs a different class, or whether you unlocked something that can improve your next loadout.

How to Level From 20 to 30 Fast in Weekend 2

If you reached Level 20 during Early Access, your job is much easier. Your Weekend 1 progression carries into the Open Beta, so you can continue directly toward Level 30 instead of starting again.

You only need ten more Player Levels.

We would use this route:

  • Check your new Daily Challenges immediately.
  • Reroll any challenge that looks inefficient.
  • Use Hardpoint, Domination, or Kill Confirmed when available.
  • Queue Open Moshpit if you want a reliable objective-heavy rotation.
  • Use your strongest available Multiplayer loadout.
  • Keep objective involvement high.
  • Use Zodiac Resurgence as an alternative source of Player XP if you perform better in Warzone.
  • Check Career Profile > Progression whenever you unlock a new level.

The final three main Beta progression rewards unlock at Levels 23, 26, and 30. Level 30 completes the level-based reward track and unlocks the Beta Forged Han 86 Weapon Blueprint.

For every reward and its requirement, use our complete MW4 Beta Rewards list.

Player Level XP vs Weapon XP

Player XP and Weapon XP are not the same thing.

Player XP increases your overall MW4 Beta Player Level toward Level 30. This progression unlocks weapons, Equipment, Perks, Field Upgrades, Killstreaks, loadout options, and the main level rewards.

Weapon XP is tied to the weapon you are using. It increases that gun's Weapon Level and helps unlock attachments and other weapon-specific progression.

You can earn both while playing Multiplayer or Zodiac, but reaching Player Level 30 does not mean that all your weapons will also be fully leveled.

If your main goal is Player Level 30, focus on Daily Challenges and consistent high-action gameplay.

If your main goal is Weapon XP, Casual Zodiac Resurgence deserves special attention because its Weapon XP gains were increased by 240%.

If you want to skip the weapon grind entirely, see our MW4 Beta Weapon Leveling service.

Is Ground War or Warzone Good for MW4 Beta Leveling?

Yes. Weekend 2 includes both Ground War: Combat Outpost and Warzone Resurgence on Zodiac, and both can contribute to your Beta progression.

The best option depends on whether you want Player XP, Weapon XP, or simply the mode where you perform best.

Leveling Method Best For Our Take
Objective 6v6 Player Level Most predictable all-around leveling route
Ground War Player XP if you like large maps Good, but travel time can reduce activity
Zodiac Resurgence Quads Player XP + Warzone gameplay Player XP gains increased by 55%
Zodiac Casual Resurgence Weapon XP Weapon XP gains increased by 240%

Ground War

Ground War is part of MW4 Multiplayer and contributes to your normal Player progression.

The Beta version uses 24v24 matches across Imjin Farmlands and Wolves Stadium. There are plenty of players, objectives, vehicles, and opportunities to earn score during longer matches.

The downside is travel time. If you spend a large part of each match driving, running between distant objectives, or fighting at ranges where you personally struggle, a good 6v6 objective lobby may be more productive.

Ground War can still be excellent if it fits your playstyle. We simply would not assume it is automatically faster than Open Moshpit without measured XP-per-hour data.

Warzone Zodiac Resurgence

Zodiac is now a confirmed Player XP and Weapon XP leveling option.

Infinity Ward increased Player XP gains by 55% in standard Resurgence Quads and 46% in Casual Resurgence Quads.

Weapon XP was also increased by 13% in standard Resurgence and 240% in Casual Resurgence.

That means the old advice to avoid Zodiac when grinding Level 30 no longer applies. If you enjoy Resurgence and consistently get kills, survive, complete Contracts, and stay active, Zodiac can contribute directly to your Beta Player Level.

We still would not call it the absolute fastest Level 30 method without controlled XP-per-hour testing. For predictable Player Level progression, strong 6v6 objective play remains our default recommendation.

For weapon leveling, however, Casual Resurgence is now one of the most interesting options in the entire Beta because of the 240% Weapon XP increase.

Does Your MW4 Beta Level Carry Over?

No. Your normal MW4 Beta Player Level does not carry into the full game.

Player progression and normal gameplay unlocks reset when the Beta ends. However, eligible cosmetic Beta rewards you successfully unlock remain tied to your Activision account and become available when Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23, 2026.

This is why reaching Level 30 still matters even though your Player Level resets. The level itself is temporary, but the limited Beta rewards earned along the way are not.
