VALORANT Agent Mastery is now live with Patch 13.06, which launched on September 22, 2026. The new system replaces the old Agent Gear progression with a much larger progression track built around actually playing each Agent.

If you are trying to understand Act Levels, Lifetime Levels, Mastery Points, Agent IDs, and what happens to your old rewards, this guide explains what resets, what stays permanent, and what you can unlock.

What Is Agent Mastery in VALORANT?

Agent Mastery is VALORANT's new Agent-specific progression system. Instead of unlocking Agent Gear mostly through Kingdom Credits, your progression is now also tied to how much you actually play each Agent.

The system launched with Patch 13.06 on September 22, 2026. Riot divides Agent progression into a seasonal Act Level and a permanent Lifetime Level, with both tracks powered by Mastery Points.

Riot also added Agent IDs, which give players a new way to display their favorite Agent, unlocked cosmetics, and Agent-specific statistics.

Agent Mastery Feature How It Works
Release Date September 22, 2026 with Patch 13.06
Mastery Points Earned by playing an Agent, with bonuses based on performance and match results
Act Level 10 main seasonal levels per Agent each Act, followed by Overleveling
Lifetime Level Permanent progression that increases alongside Act Levels and carries across Acts
Level Relationship 1 Act Level gained also adds 1 Lifetime Level
Starting Progress All players start at Act Level 0 and Lifetime Level 0 for every Agent
Agent ID Customizable Agent profile using unlocked poses, backgrounds, frames, stats, and more
Agent Gear Existing rewards remain, but future progression is tied to playing that Agent
Kingdom Credits Still used when unlocking eligible Agent Gear rewards

Patch 13.06 is one of VALORANT's largest updates of 2026. It also introduces the new Warden rifle, which you can read about in our complete VALORANT Warden guide.

How Does VALORANT Agent Mastery Work?

Agent Mastery is separate for every Agent. Playing Sage builds Sage Mastery, while switching to Jett means you start progressing your Jett track instead.

The basic loop is simple:

  • Choose the Agent you want to progress.
  • Play a supported VALORANT mode with that Agent.
  • Earn Mastery Points from your matches.
  • Earn bonus MP for wins and strong performance.
  • Increase your Act Level as you earn enough MP.
  • Each Act Level gained also increases your Lifetime Level by one.
  • Unlock Portrait Accents, Reward Track access, Agent ID components, and other Agent-specific rewards.

Riot has now confirmed the direct relationship between the two progression tracks: 1 Act Level = 1 Lifetime Level. Your Act Level resets at the start of the next Act, but every Lifetime Level you earned remains permanently.

Each Agent has 10 main Act Levels. After reaching Act Level 10, you can keep progressing that Agent through Overleveling for the rest of the Act.

This means players who regularly one-trick or maintain a small Agent pool finally get progression that directly reflects which characters they actually use.

What Are Mastery Points in VALORANT?

Mastery Points, or MP, are the progression points used by Agent Mastery. You earn them by playing Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay, Spike Rush, Team Deathmatch, or Premier on the Agent whose Mastery you want to increase.

Riot confirms that longer matches award more MP, while wins and a high Performance Score grant bonus MP. Riot still has not published the exact formula, but live progression data now gives us several confirmed Act Level checkpoints.

Mastery Points are different from Kingdom Credits. MP advances your Agent Mastery progression, while Kingdom Credits are spent on eligible rewards once your Lifetime progression gives you access to them.

How Much MP Do VALORANT Act Levels Require?

The live Act Level screen gives us four confirmed cumulative milestones, and our live progression testing adds one more exact checkpoint at Level 2. Most importantly, reaching Act Level 10 requires 132,400 total MP from the start of the Act.

Act Level Cumulative MP Status
Level 1 2,000 MP Confirmed in live client
Level 2 10,500 MP Confirmed through live progression testing
Level 4 30,300 MP Confirmed in live client
Level 7 71,900 MP Confirmed in live client
Level 10 132,400 MP Confirmed in live client

Level 2 requires 10,500 cumulative MP, meaning the jump from Level 1 to Level 2 costs 8,500 MP. The exact thresholds for Levels 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9 are still unconfirmed, so we are not presenting estimates as exact values. We also still do not have confirmed MP requirements for Overlevels.

How Many Mastery Points Do You Get Per Match?

Riot has not published fixed MP-per-match values because MP changes with match length, wins, and Performance Score. Riot's official support guide confirms that Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay, Spike Rush, Team Deathmatch, and Premier all award Agent Mastery MP.

Our first live tests produced 3,177 MP and 4,700 MP from two matches that lasted roughly 30โ€“40 minutes each. That is too small a sample to call an average, especially because performance and match outcome affect the result.

For early planning, we are using a conservative working estimate of around 4,000 MP per hour. At that rate, the full 132,400 MP Act Level 0 to 10 grind would take about 33 hours. Strong players can be faster, while losses or weaker performances can push the grind higher.

We still need more live data for:

  • Average MP per hour across each supported mode
  • The exact size of the win bonus
  • The exact impact of Performance Score
  • Exact MP thresholds for Levels 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9
  • MP required for Overlevels

For Riot's official list of supported modes and MP rules, see the VALORANT Agent Mastery Guide.

VALORANT Agent Mastery Act Levels Explained

Act Levels are the seasonal side of Agent Mastery. Each Agent has 10 main Act Levels to complete during an Act, and this progress resets when a new VALORANT Act begins.

Every time you gain an Act Level, you also gain one Lifetime Level. For example, if you begin a new Act at Lifetime Level 57 and complete all 10 main Act Levels with that Agent, your Lifetime Level will reach 67.

Riot has confirmed three main Act Level reward milestones:

  • Act Level 4 โ€” unlocks a Portrait Accent upgrade
  • Act Level 7 โ€” unlocks another Portrait Accent upgrade
  • Act Level 10 โ€” unlocks the final main Portrait Accent upgrade

Portrait Accents upgrade the appearance of your Agent Portrait and show your investment in that Agent from the current and previous Act.

What Is Agent Mastery Overleveling?

Once you reach Act Level 10, your Agent does not stop progressing. Riot says you can continue through Overleveling for the rest of the Act.

Riot has not published a maximum number of Overlevels, exact MP requirements for Overlevels, or any unique cosmetic rewards tied specifically to Overlevel milestones. For now, Overleveling is best understood as continued Agent progression after finishing the 10 main seasonal levels.

VALORANT Lifetime Levels Explained

Lifetime Levels are the permanent part of Agent Mastery. They do not reset when an Act ends and are designed to show your long-term progression with each Agent.

Riot has confirmed that Lifetime Levels are directly linked to Act progression: every Act Level you gain also adds one Lifetime Level.

When the next Act starts, your Act Level returns to zero, but your Lifetime Level stays where it was. You then begin adding more Lifetime Levels as you progress through the new Act.

Lifetime progression also unlocks access to each Agent's Reward Track. Once a reward becomes available, Kingdom Credits are used to unlock the rewards you want.

The live Clove Reward Track shows reward stages at Lifetime Levels 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30. Riot confirms that Lifetime Levels keep increasing as you continue progressing an Agent, so Lifetime Level 30 is not the level cap. It is simply the final reward milestone currently visible in the Clove Reward Track we checked.

Feature Act Level Lifetime Level
Resets? Yes, every Act No
Main Levels 10 per Agent each Act, then Overleveling Continues accumulating across Acts
Relationship Each Act Level gained Adds 1 Lifetime Level
Main Purpose Current Act progression and Portrait Accents Long-term progression and Reward Track access
Agent Specific? Yes Yes

The easiest way to think about the system is that Act Level shows your progress during the current Act, while Lifetime Level keeps the permanent total you have built across Acts.

All VALORANT Agent Mastery Rewards

Agent Mastery combines rewards from the old Agent Gear system with new Mastery cosmetics, Agent ID components, stats, and profile customization.

The live Clove track confirms that rewards are grouped into stages at Lifetime Levels 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30. The exact cosmetics can differ by Agent, but this gives us the clearest view yet of how the Lifetime Reward Track is structured.

Lifetime Level Clove Rewards Shown In-Game
Level 5 KD Stat, Gloomheart Spray, Mischievous Title, I Am Forever Quote, VALORANT Clove Card
Level 10 Agent Role Background, Metamorphosis Card, MVPs Stat, Level II Frame, Headshots Stat
Level 15 Flutter Ghost, No Peeking! Quote, Wee Punk Spray, First Bloods Stat
Level 20 VALORANT Background, Metal Wings Buddy, Level III Frame, Win Rate Stat, Undying Title
Level 25 Mastery I Pose, Clove Spray, Clutches Stat, Agent Lore Background
Level 30 Clove Mastery Card, Level IV Frame, Lord of Death Title, Fear Me, Mortals Quote, Aces Stat

These stages contain a mix of stat trackers, sprays, titles, quotes, cards, backgrounds, frames, buddies, and Mastery poses. Lifetime progression unlocks access to the stage, while Kingdom Credits are used to claim the rewards you want.

The current Clove carousel does not show a reward stage after Lifetime Level 30. Riot confirms that Lifetime Levels continue increasing beyond this point, but we have not found an additional Reward Track stage after Level 30 in the live Clove track.

What Are Agent IDs in VALORANT?

Agent IDs are customizable Agent-specific profiles that let you show off your Mastery progression in a more personal way.

Instead of only displaying a generic account card, the Agent ID can be built using modules earned from the Mastery system.

Customization includes:

  • Agent poses
  • Backgrounds
  • Frames
  • Quotes
  • Agent artwork
  • Tracked statistics

Riot gives every Agent ID several default stat options: Assists, Act Level 10s, Hours Played, Games Won, Damage, and Kills. Additional Reward Track stats include KD, MVP Count, Win Rate, Aces, Clutches, First Blood, and Headshots.

This gives one-tricks a much clearer way to show their history with a character. A high Lifetime Level, Agent-specific pose, frame, and selected stat can all become part of the same profile.

What Happens to Old VALORANT Agent Gear?

The important part for existing players is simple: you keep the Agent Gear you already unlocked.

Patch 13.06 folds rewards from the previous Agent Gear system into the new Agent Reward Tracks alongside new Mastery rewards. Your Lifetime progression determines which rewards you can access, and Kingdom Credits are then used to unlock the rewards you want.

This matters most if you want cosmetics from an Agent you rarely use. Under the old system, Kingdom Credits were the main gate. Under Agent Mastery, you now need to actually progress that Agent before all of their Reward Track items become available.

For Riot's official explanation, you can check the Patch 13.06 notes.

Does Previous Agent Playtime Count Toward Lifetime Levels?

No. Riot has confirmed that all players start at Act Level 0 and Lifetime Level 0 for every Agent when Agent Mastery launches.

Previous Agent playtime and progression do not carry over. Everyone begins earning Mastery Points from the same starting point, although any Agent Gear rewards you already unlocked remain on your account.

Agent Mastery vs Account Level, Battle Pass and Competitive Rank

VALORANT already has several progression systems, but Agent Mastery serves a different purpose from all of them.

Your Account Level tracks general account playtime, the Battle Pass rewards activity during an Act, and Competitive Rank measures your place on the ranked ladder. Agent Mastery instead focuses on which individual Agents you play.

System What It Tracks Resets? Main Purpose
Agent Mastery Progress with each individual Agent Act Level resets; Lifetime Level does not Agent-specific progression, Portrait Accents, and rewards
Account Level Overall account playtime No Long-term account progression
Battle Pass XP earned during the current pass New pass each Act Seasonal cosmetic rewards
Competitive Rank Ranked performance and RR Periodic rank recalibration Competitive ladder progression

A player can therefore have a high account level and strong Competitive Rank while still having relatively little Mastery on an Agent they rarely use.

Agent Mastery is also unusual because its two level types are connected. The seasonal Act Level resets, but every Act Level you earned has already added to your permanent Lifetime Level.

Fastest Way to Level Agent Mastery in VALORANT

Patch 13.06 confirms the basic MP rules, but there is still not enough verified live data to name one game mode as the fastest Agent Mastery farm.

You can earn MP in Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay, Spike Rush, Team Deathmatch, and Premier. Longer matches award more MP, while wins and a high Performance Score grant bonus MP.

Until exact per-mode MP rates and the remaining intermediate level thresholds are measured, the safest strategy is:

  • Focus on one Agent instead of spreading progress across several Agents.
  • Play supported modes that let you consistently use that Agent.
  • Try to win matches to earn the confirmed win bonus.
  • Perform well enough to benefit from the performance bonus.
  • Do not assume the shortest mode automatically gives the best MP per hour.
  • Save Kingdom Credits if you are targeting specific Reward Track items.

The real optimization question is Mastery Points earned per hour, not simply MP earned per match. Our early match data suggests strong players can earn well above 4,000 MP per hour, but more games are needed before comparing modes reliably.

How Long Does It Take to Reach Act Level 10?

The live Agent Mastery screen confirms that reaching Act Level 10 requires 132,400 cumulative MP.

Using a conservative working rate of 4,000 MP per hour, Act Level 0 to 10 takes about 33.1 hours. Our first two live tests were faster than that rate, but the sample is too small to treat those results as a stable average.

Actual completion time depends on match duration, wins, and Performance Score. Overlevel MP requirements are still unconfirmed.

Is VALORANT Agent Mastery Worth Grinding?

Agent Mastery gives players something VALORANT previously lacked: long-term progression for individual Agents.

For one-tricks and players with a small Agent pool, Lifetime Levels provide a permanent record of how much progression has been earned on a specific character. The 10 main Act Levels also create a fresh seasonal goal every Act.

Players who reach Act Levels 4, 7, and 10 unlock the three Portrait Accent milestones, while Lifetime progression opens access to permanent Agent Reward Track content.

After Act Level 10, dedicated players can continue through Overleveling for the remainder of the Act. Riot has not announced unique Overlevel-specific rewards, so the main confirmed reward milestones remain the 10 standard Act Levels and the Lifetime Reward Track.

VALORANT Agent Mastery FAQ

When Does Agent Mastery Release in VALORANT?

VALORANT Agent Mastery is live as of September 22, 2026 with Patch 13.06.

The same update also introduces the Warden rifle, Gauntlet: Glitched, Performance Score, and other major client and competitive changes.

What Are Mastery Points in VALORANT?

Mastery Points are the progression points used to increase an Agent's Mastery. You earn MP by playing supported modes with that Agent, while wins and strong performance grant bonus MP.

How Do You Earn Mastery Points?

Play Competitive, Unrated, Swiftplay, Spike Rush, Team Deathmatch, or Premier with the Agent you want to progress. Longer matches award more MP, while wins and a high Performance Score add bonus MP. Riot has not published the exact numerical formula.

How Many Act Levels Are There?

Each Agent has 10 main Act Levels per Act. After reaching Act Level 10, you can continue progressing through Overleveling for the rest of that Act.

What Is Overleveling in VALORANT?

Overleveling is the progression available after completing Act Level 10. Riot has not published a maximum Overlevel, exact MP requirements, or unique rewards tied specifically to Overlevel milestones.

Which Act Levels Give Portrait Accents?

Portrait Accents unlock at Act Levels 4, 7, and 10. These upgrade your Agent Portrait and show your investment in that Agent from the current and previous Act.

Do Agent Mastery Levels Reset?

Partially. Act Levels reset at the start of every new Act, while Lifetime Levels remain permanently.

Do Lifetime Levels Reset?

No. Lifetime Levels permanently track your Agent progression across Acts.

What Is the Difference Between Act Level and Lifetime Level?

Act Level measures your progression with an Agent during the current Act. Lifetime Level keeps the permanent total across Acts.

The two are directly connected: 1 Act Level gained = 1 Lifetime Level gained.

Does Previous Agent Playtime Count Toward Mastery?

No. Riot confirmed that every player starts at Act Level 0 and Lifetime Level 0 for each Agent. Previous Agent playtime and progression do not carry over.

What Happens to My Existing Agent Gear?

You keep any Agent Gear rewards you already unlocked. Previous Agent Gear rewards are now included in Agent Reward Tracks alongside new rewards.

Do You Still Need Kingdom Credits?

Yes. Lifetime progression unlocks access to rewards, and Kingdom Credits are then used to unlock the rewards you want from the Agent's Reward Track.

Can You Level Multiple Agents at the Same Time?

Agent Mastery is tracked separately for every Agent. Playing one Agent progresses that Agent's Mastery, so switching Agents spreads your progress across different tracks.

How Much MP Does It Take to Reach Act Level 10?

The live Agent Mastery screen shows 132,400 cumulative MP at Act Level 10. It also shows 2,000 MP at Level 1, 30,300 MP at Level 4, and 71,900 MP at Level 7. Our live progression testing confirms 10,500 cumulative MP at Level 2, meaning Level 1 to Level 2 costs 8,500 MP.

The exact thresholds for Levels 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9 are still unconfirmed, so we are not presenting estimated splits as exact values.

What Lifetime Levels Unlock Agent Mastery Rewards?

The live Clove Reward Track shows reward stages at Lifetime Levels 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30.

Level 30 is the final reward stage visible in the current Clove track we checked. Riot confirms that Lifetime Levels themselves continue increasing beyond that point.

Which Game Mode Gives the Most Mastery Points?

Riot has not published enough numerical MP data to answer this yet. The fastest mode will depend on MP earned per match, match duration, win bonuses, and performance bonuses.

How Much MP Is Needed for Each Agent Mastery Level?

The live client confirms cumulative checkpoints of 2,000 MP at Level 1, 30,300 MP at Level 4, 71,900 MP at Level 7, and 132,400 MP at Level 10. Our live progression testing also confirms 10,500 cumulative MP at Level 2.

The exact thresholds for Levels 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9 remain unconfirmed, and Overlevel requirements are still unknown.

How Long Does It Take to Reach Act Level 10?

Using our conservative working estimate of 4,000 MP per hour, reaching Act Level 10 from zero takes about 33.1 hours. This is an early estimate rather than a fixed time because match length, wins, and Performance Score all affect MP gains.
