VALORANT has had the same premium rifle debate for years: Vandal or Phantom? The new Warden rifle adds a third option at the exact same 2,900-credit price, but it trades fire rate and magazine size for higher damage, better first-shot accuracy, and a powerful 2x scope.

So, is the Warden actually better than the Vandal or Phantom, and should you start buying it in ranked? Here is everything we know before its September 22 release.

VALORANT Warden new rifle

What Is the Warden in VALORANT?

The Warden is a new fully automatic rifle coming to VALORANT on September 22, 2026. It costs 2,900 Credits, placing it directly beside the Vandal and Phantom as another full-buy rifle.

The difference is its role. Riot designed the Warden around accurate fights and holding longer sightlines without forcing players to buy a sniper rifle.

Its standout feature is a 2x scope. The Vandal and Phantom use 1.25x ADS, so the Warden gives players noticeably more magnification when holding distant angles.

It also has the best first-shot accuracy of the three rifles. In return, you get a slower fire rate, just 18 bullets per magazine, and far less room for error when spraying.

That makes the Warden less like "another Vandal" and more like a weapon that sits somewhere between the Guardian's precision-first style and a normal automatic rifle.

VALORANT Warden Stats

Here are the Warden's revealed stats before launch:

Stat Warden
Price 2,900 Credits
Fire Mode Full Auto
Scope 2x
Magazine 18 rounds
Reserve Ammo 36 rounds
Head Damage 200
Body Damage 50
Leg Damage 42
Fire Rate 6.5 rounds/sec
Reload 2.5 seconds
Wall Penetration Medium
First-Shot Spread 0.15 hip-fire / 0.04 ADS
The two numbers that immediately stand out are 200 head damage and 50 body damage. A headshot kills a fully armored enemy, while three clean body shots deal exactly 150 damage.

However, the Warden fires only 6.5 rounds per second. Missing the first few bullets will therefore be much more punishing than with the Vandal or Phantom.

Warden vs Vandal vs Phantom

The Warden is not competing with the Guardian on price. At 2,900 Credits, Riot is asking players to choose it instead of a Vandal or Phantom during a normal full-buy round.

That makes this the comparison that actually matters:

Stat Warden Vandal Phantom
Price 2,900 2,900 2,900
Scope 2x 1.25x 1.25x
Magazine 18 25 30
Fire Rate 6.5/sec 9.75/sec 11/sec
Long-Range Headshot 200 damage 160 damage Damage falloff
Hip First-Shot Spread 0.15 0.25 0.20
ADS First-Shot Spread 0.04 0.157 0.11
Best Use Long angles and precise shots Flexible one-taps Close fights and spraying
The Warden clearly has the strongest raw accuracy numbers. The trade-off is that the Phantom fires much faster, while the Vandal is also significantly faster and carries seven more rounds.

In simple terms, the Vandal remains the flexible one-tap rifle, the Phantom remains the spray-friendly rifle, and the Warden becomes the precision rifle.

Why the Warden Could Be So Strong

On paper, the Warden has several advantages that VALORANT players have never had together on one automatic rifle.

200 Damage Headshots at Any Range

The Warden deals 200 damage to the head at all ranges. Like the Vandal, that means a clean headshot kills an enemy with full armor regardless of distance.

The Phantom cannot always do this because its damage decreases at longer ranges. The Warden therefore gives precision players another rifle that does not punish them for taking long-distance headshot fights.

50 Body Damage Changes Gunfights

The Warden also deals exactly 50 body damage. Three body shots are enough to kill an enemy with 150 effective health.

A Vandal needs four body shots against full armor. This gives the Warden a strong damage breakpoint, although its slower fire rate means those three bullets take longer to deliver if both players simply hold down the trigger.

Best First-Shot Accuracy of the Three Rifles

Accuracy might be the biggest reason to buy the Warden.

Its first-shot spread is 0.15 from the hip and just 0.04 while ADS. Lower spread means greater accuracy, and both figures beat the Vandal and Phantom.

This should make the Warden especially dangerous when holding a narrow angle and waiting for an opponent to walk into your crosshair.

The 2x Scope Is a Major Difference

The 2x optic gives the Warden another advantage that cannot be seen from its damage numbers alone.

The extra zoom should make heads easier to see and track across long sightlines. Players coming from weapons such as the Guardian may also feel more comfortable with a rifle built around deliberate ADS fights.

Where the Warden Loses to the Vandal and Phantom

The Warden's strengths come with clear drawbacks.

  • Only 18 bullets: much less room for spraying or fighting several enemies.
  • 6.5 rounds per second: significantly slower than both competing rifles.
  • Missed shots hurt more: a Vandal or Phantom player can send the next bullet much sooner.
  • Likely weaker up close: high fire rate matters much more when enemies are only a few meters away.
  • Medium wall penetration: the Warden does not gain a special wallbang advantage.

The biggest unknown before release is how the Warden feels once the first bullet misses. First-shot accuracy looks excellent, but recoil, recovery, spraying, and movement will decide whether the weapon remains comfortable during messy ranked fights.

That is something we will be able to judge properly once Patch 13.06 goes live.

Warden vs Vandal: Which Is Better?

Before launch, the Vandal looks like the safer general-purpose choice. It still one-taps at every range, shoots much faster, carries more ammunition, and has years of muscle memory behind it for experienced players.

The Warden has the advantage when the fight becomes more deliberate. Its 2x scope, better first-shot accuracy, higher body damage, and 200-damage headshot all favor players holding long sightlines.

If you frequently burst, tap, hold angles, and trust your first bullet, the Warden could be better for that specific playstyle.

If you want one rifle that remains comfortable across almost every fight, the Vandal is likely to remain easier to recommend.

Warden vs Phantom: Which Is Better?

The Warden and Phantom are even more different.

The Phantom favors close and medium-range fights. It has a 30-round magazine, a much higher fire rate, easier multi-kill potential, and a silencer that makes it excellent for shooting through smokes.

The Warden moves in the opposite direction. It gives up fire rate and ammunition for more damage, much stronger long-range headshots, higher first-shot accuracy, and 2x magnification.

A player anchoring a tight site entrance may still prefer the Phantom. A player holding a long lane from the back of a site could find the Warden much more attractive.

Who Should Use the Warden?

The Warden looks best suited to players who already build their gunfights around accuracy rather than spraying.

You may want to try it if you:

  • Prefer tapping or short bursts.
  • Have strong first-shot aim.
  • Frequently hold long defensive angles.
  • Like the Guardian but want access to full-auto fire.
  • Prefer ADS during long-range fights.
  • Want a one-shot headshot without relying on the Vandal.

Players who regularly spray-transfer between several opponents or take aggressive close-range fights may have a harder time justifying its 18-round magazine and slow fire rate.

Best Maps and Positions for the Warden

It is too early to call any map a definitive "Warden map," but its design makes some types of positions obvious candidates.

Maps with long lanes and open sightlines should give the 2x scope and high first-shot accuracy more room to matter. Breeze, Icebox, and Abyss are natural examples, along with long defensive angles on maps such as Haven.

The Warden should be less appealing in cramped positions where enemies can quickly close the distance. In those fights, the Phantom's fire rate and larger magazine become much more useful.

The real test will come after launch when players begin finding specific angles where the Warden can take advantage of its scope without being forced into close fights.

Will the Warden Replace the Vandal or Phantom?

Probably not completely, and that may be exactly the point.

VALORANT's weapon system has always worked best when different guns have clear trade-offs. The Vandal offers reliable one-taps, while the Phantom trades some long-range damage for faster and more forgiving close-range fights.

The Warden appears to create a third choice rather than replacing either weapon. Its identity is built around precision, magnification, and high damage per bullet.

For the first time, the classic question may no longer be simply "Vandal or Phantom?" Some players could start making that choice based on the map, Agent, side, and angle they plan to hold.

That alone could make the Warden one of VALORANT's most important weapon additions since launch.

When Does the Warden Release in VALORANT?

The Warden releases with VALORANT Patch 13.06 on September 22, 2026.

That is only two days before VALORANT Champions Shanghai begins on September 24. Riot has confirmed that the Warden will not be enabled at Champions Shanghai, so professional teams will not suddenly have to adapt to a completely new premium rifle during the biggest tournament of the year.

Ranked players, however, will be able to start testing where the Warden fits into the normal weapon meta once the patch arrives.

We will update this guide after release with recoil testing, spray behavior, the best Warden maps and angles, and a clearer verdict on whether it can actually compete with the Vandal and Phantom.
