Overwatch Quick Play Drives give players a way to complete Drive progression without putting their Competitive rank at risk. The system uses a separate, shorter reward track and focuses on Legacy Competitive Points instead of the current Competitive rewards.

This guide explains how Quick Play Drives work, how to approach the grind efficiently, what you can earn, and whether you should play Quick Play, Competitive, or both.

What Are Quick Play Drives in Overwatch?

Quick Play Drives are a version of Overwatch's limited-time Drive system designed specifically for players using Quick Play. They have their own progression and reward track, separate from the normal Competitive Drive.

The main benefit is that you can work toward Drive rewards without playing ranked matches or risking your Competitive rank. Quick Play Drives also use a shorter reward track, making them a more casual alternative to the normal Competitive grind.

Quick Play and Competitive Drives run during the same Drive event window. You can choose one track based on the rewards you want, or complete both if you want everything available during the event.
Quick Play Drive Feature How It Works
Game Mode Quick Play
Progress Track Separate from Competitive Drives
Track Length Shorter than the Competitive Drive
Main Reward Legacy Competitive Points
Competitive Rank Risk None
Seasonal Drive Signature Not awarded through the Quick Play track
Can You Complete Competitive Too? Yes

How Do Quick Play Drives Work?

Quick Play Drives use the same basic idea as the existing Drive system: play during the limited event window, build progress, reach checkpoints, and claim rewards along the way.

The important difference is that Quick Play progress belongs to its own track. Playing Quick Play does not advance your Competitive Drive, and playing Competitive does not replace your Quick Play progress.

This lets Blizzard offer different rewards for each type of player. The Quick Play track focuses on Legacy Competitive Points, while the Competitive version remains the route for current Competitive Points and the seasonal Drive Signature.

The Quick Play track is also shorter than the Competitive one. This should make it easier to complete for players who do not want to spend the entire Drive event grinding ranked matches.

Blizzard has not yet published the final numerical Quick Play scoring table. The exact progress per result, checkpoint requirements, loss behavior, and supported Quick Play playlists will be added here once the first event exposes the full rules.

How to Complete Quick Play Drives Faster

You do not need a Competitive rank to approach Quick Play Drives efficiently. The most important goal is to make your limited event time produce as many successful matches as possible.

1. Play Heroes You Already Win With

A Drive event is not the best time to learn a completely new hero. Use heroes you already understand, especially picks you can play reliably even when your team composition is not perfect.

Comfort matters more than chasing whatever hero currently looks strongest on a tier list. A hero you understand well will usually give you more consistent results than a meta pick you barely play.

2. Build a Small Hero Pool

Do not depend on a single hero. Have at least two or three reliable options so you can adapt when another player takes your main hero or when your normal pick does not fit the match.

A small pool also makes longer Drive sessions easier because you can switch roles or playstyles without experimenting from scratch.

3. Focus on Winning the Match, Not Personal Stats

Drive progression is about completing the event, not producing the best-looking scoreboard. Avoid extending bad fights or chasing extra eliminations when regrouping with your team gives you a better chance to win.

Objective time, positioning, team fights, and staying alive usually matter more than padding damage or elimination numbers.

4. Queue With Players You Trust

A coordinated group can remove much of the randomness of Quick Play. Even one or two reliable teammates can make team fights, support coverage, target focus, and ultimate usage more consistent.

If Blizzard adds any specific group progression bonus to Quick Play Drives, we will include the exact value here once it is confirmed.

5. Check Which Drive Reward You Actually Need

Do not grind the wrong track. Quick Play Drives are mainly useful for Legacy Competitive Points, while Competitive Drives are better if you want the current Competitive currency or the seasonal Drive Signature.

If you want rewards from both tracks, you can complete both during the same Drive event.

Quick Play Drive Rewards

The main Quick Play Drive reward is Legacy Competitive Points. This is one of the biggest differences between Quick Play and the normal Competitive Drive.

Quick Play Drives do not currently provide the seasonal Drive Signature. The Competitive track remains the option for players who want the current Signature and current Competitive Point rewards.

Because both Drive tracks can be completed during the same event, you do not have to permanently choose between them. If you have enough time, you can finish Quick Play for its Legacy currency and then complete Competitive for the remaining rewards.

The exact Quick Play checkpoint reward amounts have not yet been published. Once Blizzard exposes the full reward track, this section will include the exact Legacy Competitive Points available at every checkpoint.

What Are Legacy Competitive Points?

Legacy Competitive Points are used for older Competitive weapon rewards. They are separate from the Competitive Points used for the current year's weapon variant.

For the 2026 Competitive Year, Crimson Wolf is the current weapon variant. Gold, Jade, and Galactic are part of the Legacy reward pool.
Weapon Variant 2026 Status Currency
Gold Legacy Reward Legacy Competitive Points
Jade Legacy Reward Legacy Competitive Points
Galactic Legacy Reward Legacy Competitive Points
Crimson Wolf Current 2026 Reward Current Competitive Points

This is why Quick Play Drives are especially useful for players collecting older weapon variants. You can build Legacy currency without needing to put your Competitive rank at risk.

Quick Play Drives should not be treated as a shortcut to Crimson Wolf. If Crimson Wolf is your goal, you still need current Competitive Points.

How Drive Signatures Work in Season 5

Quick Play Drives do not award the current seasonal Drive Signature. That reward remains tied to the Competitive Drive track.

Season 5 does, however, improve how previously earned Signatures work. Players can select and display Drive Signatures they earned during earlier Drive events instead of being limited to only the latest one.

According to information shared during the Season 5 developer livestream, the Signature selector becomes available after reaching Checkpoint 4 of the current Drive.

This does not give you old Signatures you missed. It only allows you to choose between Signatures already unlocked on your account.

Quick Play Drives vs Competitive Drives

The two Drives happen during the same event period, but they target different players and rewards. Quick Play is the lower-pressure option, while Competitive remains the more complete Drive track.

Progress Track Separate QP track Competitive Drive track
Main Currency Legacy Competitive Points Current Competitive Points
Seasonal Drive Signature No Yes

Can You Complete Both? Yes Yes

Which Drive Should You Play?

The best Drive depends on the reward you actually want.

Play Quick Play Drives If You Want:

  • Legacy Competitive Points.
  • Gold weapon variants.
  • Jade weapon variants.
  • Galactic weapon variants.
  • A shorter Drive track.
  • Drive progression without affecting your Competitive rank.

Play Competitive Drives If You Want:

  • Current Competitive Points.
  • The current seasonal Drive Signature.
  • Progress toward the current Competitive weapon variant.
  • The full Competitive Drive reward track.

Play Both If You Want Everything

You can complete both reward tracks during the same Drive event. Quick Play progress and Competitive progress are separate, so completing one does not lock or replace the other.

For most collectors, completing both will be the best option because the two tracks reward different Competitive Point currencies.

Quick Play Drive Troubleshooting

If your Quick Play Drive does not seem to be progressing correctly, check these points before assuming your account is bugged.

Make Sure the Drive Event Is Active

Quick Play Drives are limited-time events. Season 5 launched on October 6, 2026, but that does not mean a Quick Play Drive is permanently active throughout the entire season.

Blizzard will activate Quick Play Drives during specific Drive event windows alongside Competitive Drives.

Make Sure You Are Playing an Eligible Quick Play Queue

Not every casual or unranked mode should automatically be assumed to count. Blizzard has not yet published the final list covering modes such as 5v5 Quick Play, 6v6, and Stadium Quick Play.

If one playlist is not awarding progress during the live event, switch to the standard eligible Quick Play queue shown by the Drive interface.

Remember That Quick Play and Competitive Progress Are Separate

Quick Play matches do not advance the Competitive Drive track. Likewise, Competitive progress does not automatically fill your Quick Play track.

Check which Drive track you are viewing before assuming progress is missing.

You Cannot Use Quick Play to Unlock a Missed Signature

The Signature selector is for Signatures you already earned. If an old Signature is missing from your account, completing the Quick Play track does not retroactively unlock it.

The ability to select your previously earned Signatures is also tied to reaching Checkpoint 4 of the current Drive.

When Do Quick Play Drives Start?

Quick Play Drives were announced for Overwatch Season 5: A Grim Doctrine, which launched on October 6, 2026. Blizzard confirmed the Season 5 launch date in its official Season 5 announcement.

The first Quick Play Drive does not automatically begin with the first day of the season. Quick Play Drives are designed to run alongside Competitive Drive events, and Blizzard has not yet published the exact start date of the first Season 5 Quick Play Drive.

Once the first event is scheduled, this guide will include the exact start time, end time, and duration.

Does 6v6 Quick Play count?

The final eligible playlist list has not been published yet. We will update this guide once Blizzard confirms whether 6v6 Quick Play contributes to Drive progression.

Quick Play Drives make the Drive system much more accessible for players who want Competitive weapon rewards without turning every event into a ranked grind.
