Infinity Ward can rotate individual featured playlists during the weekend, so a mode being part of the Open Beta does not always mean it has its own permanent playlist.

MW4 Open Beta Playlists Live Now

Infinity Ward's launch-day Open Beta playlist includes several ways to access the new content.

  • Hijack - Dedicated playlist for the new 6v6 mode.
  • Quick Play - Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy, Inflation, and Hijack.
  • Open Moshpit - Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, and Kill Confirmed.
  • Mobility Course
  • 10v10 Gunfight on Kill Block
  • Ground War: Combat Outpost
  • Zodiac Resurgence Quads

There are also several mode changes in effect for the Open Beta. Team Deathmatch now has a 100-point score limit, up from 75, while Kill Confirmed now ends at 75 instead of 65.

Hardpoint has also received dedicated spawn tuning for Weekend 2. Infinity Ward is testing more predictable spawn behavior around Hardpoint rotations and plans to continue adjusting it based on Beta feedback.

The old Transit 24/7 playlist from Weekend 1 is not part of the August 28 launch playlist.

For Beta rewards, level caps, access details, and the rest of the test, see our complete Modern Warfare 4 Beta guide.

Every MW4 Open Beta Core Map

There are six Core 6v6 maps in the MW4 Open Beta. Five appeared during Weekend 1, while Lithium joins the rotation for Weekend 2.

  • Rooftops
  • Silkworm
  • Transit 213
  • Cachette
  • Lotus
  • Lithium

Rooftops

Rooftops takes place across the snow-covered rooftops of New York's Hotel Times West. Elevated platforms, exterior walkways, scaffolding, and compact interior spaces give players several routes around the city block.

The vertical layout rewards players who use MW4's movement systems to quickly change elevation. Higher routes also provide strong sightlines over Operators moving through the lower sections of the map.

Silkworm

Silkworm is set inside a dense South Korean shopping district centered around a subway entrance. Storefronts, apartments, alleys, and narrow streets create frequent close-to-mid-range fights.

Unlike Rooftops, Silkworm has fewer powerful elevated positions. Most engagements happen around street level, making fast weapon handling and close-range Loadouts especially useful.

Transit 213

Transit 213 takes place in an overgrown bus depot in western India. Rusting buses divide the battlefield into tight lanes, concealed paths, and several open sightlines across the Center Lot.

The buses provide plenty of cover but also create dangerous choke points. Assault Rifles can take advantage of the longer lanes, while SMGs and Shotguns are strong when fighting between or inside the buses.

Infinity Ward also improved Transit 213's lighting and color balance during the Beta to make enemy Operators easier to see.

Cachette

Cachette is a secret hideout beside a French rail terminal. Cobblestone streets, shipping containers, rooftops, garages, and compact interiors create a tightly connected map with many flanking routes.

Players can move across containers and rooftops around the middle of the map, giving Cachette more vertical options than its small footprint initially suggests.

Lotus

Lotus is set in a battle-scarred Korean fishing village. Abandoned tanks, burning buildings, narrow streets, accessible interiors, docks, and a longer main road create a mix of close-range and ranged engagements.

The map supports several Loadout styles because players can move between tight buildings and more exposed exterior routes quickly.

Lotus remains part of the Open Beta alongside Lithium, giving Weekend 2 a total of six Core maps.

Lithium

Lithium is the new Core 6v6 map added for the Open Beta. It takes place at a damaged lithium processing facility in rural Mexico.

Industrial buildings, processing equipment, open exterior areas, and long mid-range lanes make Assault Rifles, LMGs, and Marksman Rifles natural choices on Lithium.

The map also includes interactive garage doors. Players can use nearby controls to open them or partially close them. A partially closed garage door still leaves enough room to slide underneath, creating another route into contested areas.

Is Map Voting in the MW4 Open Beta?

Yes, map voting was enabled during the Beta once the Core rotation became large enough to support it.

Infinity Ward initially waited until four Core maps were available before enabling voting. Players can then choose between map options before a match instead of having every map selected automatically.

With six Core maps now included in Weekend 2, the Open Beta provides a larger voting pool than the first days of Early Access.

What Is Kill Block in the MW4 Beta?

Kill Block is MW4's adaptive Gunfight environment. Instead of using one permanent layout, it is built from interchangeable map sections called Slabs.

Three connected Slabs form a Combo. Every two rounds, Kill Block creates a new Combo and gives every player a new randomized shared Loadout.

This means both the battlefield and your weapons change during the same match. Teams must adapt rather than relying on one route or custom class.

The Open Beta supports two Kill Block formats:

  • 3v3 Gunfight
  • 10v10 Gunfight

However, Infinity Ward's August 28 launch playlist currently lists 10v10 Gunfight. The 3v3 version is still included in the official Weekend 2 content pool, so it can rotate into the playlist during the Open Beta.

Teams swap spawn sides every round. Tactical and Lethal Equipment become available shortly after each round begins, and both teams use identical randomized weapons.

To win a round, eliminate the opposing team or capture the Overtime Flag if time expires.

Infinity Ward has also temporarily disabled join in progress on Kill Block while it works on an issue related to round transitions.

What Is Hijack in MW4?

Hijack is the new 6v6 objective mode added for the Open Beta, and it currently has its own dedicated playlist.

Both teams fight over one Data Spike located around the central area of the map. After taking it, the carrier can run with the Spike, throw it forward, or pass it to a teammate.

The goal is to reach the enemy Comm Station and plant the Data Spike. Once planted, it generates points for your team and awards additional score if it survives long enough to detonate.

The defending team can attack the position and defuse the Spike before the attackers receive the full reward.

While carrying the Data Spike, the player's normal Lethal Equipment input is used to throw it. This makes protecting the carrier important because they lose access to their normal Lethal until they drop or pass the objective.

What Is Inflation in MW4?

Inflation is a 6v6 mode where eliminations generate cash and the richest players gradually become more valuable targets.

Eliminated Operators drop cash that either team can collect. Players carrying large amounts of money become marked High Value Targets, making their position more important to both teams.

This gives teams several choices during a match. You can protect your richest player, hunt the enemy HVT, recover dropped money, or prevent the opposing team from collecting cash after an elimination.

The match becomes even more volatile during Overtime, when cash multipliers increase and a few successful fights can dramatically change the score.

Inflation is included in the current Open Beta Quick Play rotation.

Search & Destroy in the MW4 Open Beta

Search & Destroy is available in the Open Beta as part of the current Quick Play pool.

Attackers attempt to plant and detonate a bomb at one of two objectives, while defenders try to stop the plant or defuse the bomb.

Every player receives one life per round. There are no respawns, so eliminations, information, positioning, and teamwork have much more impact than in standard respawn modes.

Teams alternate between attacking and defending. A round can be won by completing the objective or eliminating the entire opposing team.

Combat Outpost & Ground War in the MW4 Beta

The Open Beta introduces 24v24 Ground War through the new Combat Outpost mode.

Combat Outpost takes the basic territory-control idea of Domination and expands it across much larger maps. Teams capture Outposts to earn points and create additional spawn locations closer to the front line.

Capturing an Outpost is only the beginning. Teams can continue Reinforcing positions they control to unlock stronger battlefield rewards.

These can include:

  • Local UAV coverage
  • JLTV airdrops
  • Light Tank support
  • Additional vehicle and battlefield support

This rewards teams that defend territory instead of immediately abandoning an objective after capturing it.

Imjin Farmlands

Imjin Farmlands is the more open of the two Ground War maps. It takes place across the rural outskirts of Haijin and includes open fields, waterways, farms, roads, rail lines, and a large mill.

Long sightlines and relatively flat terrain make vehicles and ranged weapons especially important. The mill also provides a major elevated position over the surrounding farmland.

Wolves Stadium

Wolves Stadium is built around a much denser urban section of Haijin.

Multi-story buildings, transit lines, tunnels, rooftops, hillsides, and dense streets create far more vertical movement than Imjin Farmlands. Ascenders, ladders, pipes, and other traversal routes can quickly move players between different elevations.

Warzone Zodiac Resurgence Is Live Now

Warzone is officially playable in the Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta for the first time, with 44-player Resurgence on the new Zodiac map.

The current launch playlist is Zodiac Resurgence Quads. Infinity Ward also plans to rotate Casual Resurgence Quads into the Beta during Weekend 2.

Zodiac is set in South Korea around the DRC Advanced Systems drone assembly and manufacturing headquarters. The map contains 10 named POIs and mixes industrial buildings, offices, tracks, underground routes, elevated positions, and shoreline areas.

Named locations include Admin, Solar, Old Mines, Dispatch, Trackline, R&D, Depot, Furnace, Sentinel, and Cooling.

Players can move through the central Trackline with multiple trains, manufacturing facilities, rooftops, tunnels, and an underground network that provides safer rotation options away from exposed surface routes.

Zodiac also features dynamic elements including moving solar panels, furnace conveyor belts, incoming trains, an explosive tank encounter, and legendary loot.

The Beta provides default Warzone Loadouts for Assault Rifles, SMGs, LMGs, and Sniper Rifles.

Like other Resurgence modes, eliminated teammates can redeploy while another squad member remains alive. Eliminations and completed Contracts reduce the redeployment timer.

For the full map, access rules, POIs, progression, and Resurgence details, see our MW4 Warzone Beta and Zodiac guide.

What Is the MW4 Mobility Course?

The Mobility Course is a dedicated training area built to teach Modern Warfare 4's expanded movement system.

Players first complete guided Tutorials and can then attempt timed Courses across three difficulty levels:

  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • Expert

Runs receive a rating from C- through S. Players can repeat each Course to improve their route, movement chains, rating, and completion time.

Techniques covered include Mantle Slide, Mantle Momentum, Mantle Steering, Supine Slide, Pipe Climb, Fast Pipe Slide, Hang Shimmy, Hang Lean, and Climbing Jump.

Completing the related Beta challenge also unlocks the Clockwork Charm.

For all level rewards and additional Beta cosmetics, see our MW4 Beta Rewards guide.
