League of Legends Classic has 30 account levels, but its most important rewards are not spread evenly. Players unlock Masteries, Rune categories, Rune Pages, The Council, and Summoner’s Journey at specific milestones.

Quick answer: Masteries unlock at Level 3, all four Rune categories are available by Level 8, The Council unlocks at Level 5, and Summoner’s Journey unlocks at Level 10. Level 30 completes the permanent track and awards the RUSTIER Blitzcrank Classic Skin.
How LoL Classic Level Unlocks Work
League Classic uses a separate account progression system called Classic Level. Every player begins at Classic Level 0 and can progress to a maximum of Level 30.Your regular League of Legends account level does not replace this progression. You earn Classic XP by playing League Classic matches and completing eligible Classic missions.
Classic Levels unlock several types of rewards:
- Gameplay features: Masteries, Rune categories, and Rune Pages
- Progression systems: Summoner’s Journey and The Council
- Currencies: Influence Points and Blue Essence
- Cosmetics: Icons, portraits, an emote, a ward, a title, and a Classic Skin
Classic Level is a free, one-time progression track. It does not reset with each Seasonal Classic Pass.
Seasonal Classic Passes are separate. They can offer additional free and paid rewards, including extra Rune Pages, but they do not replace the permanent Level 0 to 30 track.
Players receive default Rune and Mastery setups before unlocking full customisation. This means new Classic accounts can still enter matches without having every gameplay option unlocked.
Patch 26.17 progression update: Riot doubled Classic XP earned per game, more than doubled IP earned per game, gave every player two additional Rune Pages for free, and reduced the cost of several Runes. Progression is now significantly faster than it was at launch.

The permanent Classic progression track contains 30 levels. Early levels focus on gameplay systems, while later levels contain more currencies, Rune Pages, Council voting power, and cosmetics.The most important gameplay unlocks arrive by Level 10. Reaching Level 10 unlocks most of the major gameplay systems, but it represents only the early part of the full progression track. Later levels focus more heavily on Rune Pages, voting power, currencies, and cosmetics.
Players interested mainly in gameplay may target Level 8 or Level 10 first. Players who want every permanent reward must continue to Level 30.
When Do Runes Unlock in LoL Classic?
Custom Runes begin unlocking at Classic Level 4. Each Rune category is then added separately over the next few levels.All four main Rune categories are available once you reach Level 8.

What Are Marks, Seals, Glyphs, and Quintessences?
Marks, Seals, Glyphs, and Quintessences are the four Rune categories used by the older League Rune system. Each category contains different stat options that can change how your champion performs.Marks commonly support offensive stats, while Seals often provide defensive or resource-based options. Glyphs can support ability-focused or defensive builds, while Quintessences provide larger individual bonuses.
The exact best setup depends on your champion, role, and planned build. Classic Runes can affect damage, survivability, cooldowns, movement, resource use, and early-game strength.
Do You Need to Upgrade Classic Runes?
No. Classic Runes use the old Tier 3 power level as their baseline, so players do not need to buy several weaker versions before reaching the strongest tier.You unlock access by playing and increasing your Classic Level. This removes much of the original Rune upgrade grind while preserving the older Rune Page system.
Patch 26.17 also made Runes cheaper. Quintessences were reduced from 1,250 IP to 1,000 IP, while Minor Runes were reduced from 650 IP to 500 IP.
Are Default Rune Pages Available?
Yes. Players receive default Rune and Mastery setups before every custom category is unlocked.Default setups let lower-level accounts play normally, while empty Rune slots also provide fallback bonuses. However, a custom Rune Page gives you much more control over your champion and matchup.
Important milestone: Level 8 is the first point where all four Rune categories are available. It remains one of the best early targets for players who want complete Rune customisation.
How Many Rune Pages Do You Get in LoL Classic?
League Classic originally provides three starting Rune Pages. Patch 26.17 then granted every player two additional Rune Pages for free.The permanent Classic Level track also awards three more Rune Pages:
- Level 13: One Classic Rune Page
- Level 17: One Classic Rune Page
- Level 20: One Classic Rune Page
This means a player who has received the Patch 26.17 grant and reaches Level 20 can have eight Rune Pages from the starting pages, the free patch grant, and permanent Classic Level rewards alone.
Additional Rune Pages can still be obtained through other systems such as the Classic Pass or purchased separately.
Level 13 is the first Rune Page reward on the permanent progression track. Level 17 adds another, while Level 20 completes the three level-based Rune Page rewards.
Current Rune Page total: 3 starting pages + 2 free pages from Patch 26.17 + 3 pages from Levels 13, 17, and 20 = 8 Rune Pages before counting Classic Pass rewards or additional purchases.
When Do Masteries Unlock in LoL Classic?
Classic Mastery Pages unlock at Level 3. Level 3 also awards 500 Blue Essence.Classic Masteries are separate from modern League’s current Rune system. Players returning from older seasons may recognise the familiar tree-based setup.
Players gain access to the full 30 Mastery Points by Level 4. Masteries are free, so unlike Runes, you do not need to spend Influence Points to build a complete Mastery page.
If you forget to prepare a custom setup, the game provides a default page. A custom Mastery page is still better when you need a build designed for a specific champion or role.
What Unlocks at Classic Level 10?
Classic Level 10 unlocks Summoner’s Journey and awards 1,000 Influence Points. Summoner’s Journey is League Classic’s rank-style progression system.Once the system is unlocked, players complete five placement games. The results determine their first Journey Emblem and division.

What Is The Council and When Does It Unlock?
The Council is League Classic’s community voting system. Riot uses it to collect player input on the future direction of Classic.Council voting can help guide decisions involving:
- Which champions are added to Classic
- Future Classic Skins
- Selected gameplay changes
- Other updates to the Classic experience
The important distinction is that Level 5 unlocks access to The Council. It does not award the same Voting Power reward shown later in the progression track.
Additional Council Voting Power is awarded at Levels 15 and 25.

The Council is now an active part of League Classic. Riot published the results of its first Council poll in Patch 26.18, confirming that successful community votes can lead to future gameplay and content changes.
Riot still controls decisions involving game health and balance, but The Council gives active Classic players a voice in other areas.

The permanent level track does not currently award Classic Skin Tokens at Levels 17 and 28. Level 17 awards a Rune Page, while Level 28 awards 1,000 Blue Essence.
Portraits are alternate loading-screen artwork used in League Classic. Classic-specific cosmetics can have different availability rules from cosmetics used in modern League, so check the in-client reward description when needed.
What Do You Get at LoL Classic Level 30?
Reaching Classic Level 30 awards the RUSTIER Blitzcrank Classic Skin. This is the final reward on the permanent Classic Level track.Completing Classic Levels does not mean all League Classic progression is finished. You can still climb Summoner’s Journey, complete missions, collect Seasonal Classic Pass rewards, take part in Council votes, and participate in future Classic updates.
