Overwatch Team Drives are a new experimental Competitive event built around winning with the same teammates. Instead of progressing through normal Drive Score, you earn Fame, climb Gladiator Ranks, unlock new rewards, and eventually complete a final challenge that requires winning 3 of your last 4 matches.
The first Team Drive runs for only 72 hours from September 4 to September 7, 2026. This guide explains how Team Drives work, Fame bonuses, Gladiator Ranks, Player Card Frames, The Trial, rewards, and how the new event compares to normal Competitive Drives.
Overwatch Team Drives at a Glance
Team Drives use a different progression system from regular Drives. Winning is still important, but Blizzard now gives players an extra reason to stay grouped with teammates after a successful match.

When Is the First Overwatch Team Drive?
The first Overwatch Team Drive begins on
September 4 at 11 AM PT and ends on
September 7 at 11 AM PT. That gives players exactly
72 hours to progress through the event and complete the final challenge.
Blizzard says Team Drives are intentionally shorter than normal Drives to reduce how much they disrupt regular Competitive Play.

How Do Overwatch Team Drives Work?
Team Drives change what happens after you win a Competitive match. Instead of immediately sending everyone back into separate queues, the system can automatically group the winning players together.
The basic Team Drive progression works like this:
- Win a Team Drive match and earn progress toward Fame.
- The winning players are automatically grouped together after the match.
- Queue again with the group and try to keep winning.
- Consecutive team wins increase your Fame bonus.
- Earn enough Fame to climb through Gladiator Ranks.
- Reach the end and complete the final 3-out-of-4 win challenge.
Team Drives still use the usual
Hero Bans and Map Voting during Competitive matches. The new Fame, Gladiator Rank, and auto-grouping systems change how you progress through the event, but they do not replace these normal Competitive match systems.
The important difference is that Team Drives reward players for keeping a successful group together. A strong set of random teammates can therefore turn into a temporary stack without everyone needing to add each other or manually create a party.
What Happens After You Win?
When auto-grouping is enabled, winning a Team Drive match groups you with the other winning players. You can then queue for another match together and continue building the team's Fame bonus.
Each consecutive win as a team gives an
increasing bonus to Fame. This means a team that continues winning together can progress through Gladiator Ranks faster than players constantly returning to solo queue.
What Happens If You Leave the Team?
You are not locked into the group. Blizzard says you can leave and return to solo queue whenever you want.
Your
individual bonus is preserved when you leave. However, you stop benefiting from the bonuses contributed by the other winners you were grouped with, which can make future Fame progression slower.
You can also skip the automatic team-building system completely and enter Team Drives with your own friends or a full premade stack.

What Is Fame in Overwatch Team Drives?
Fame is the main progression system used during Team Drives. It plays a similar role to Drive Score in normal Competitive Drives, but it is built around consecutive team wins and Gladiator Rank progression.
Winning and staying together with successful teammates increases your Fame bonus. The better your team performs over multiple games, the more valuable staying grouped becomes.
Blizzard has confirmed the basic Fame system, but several exact values have
not been officially published yet. These include:
- Base Fame earned from one win.
- The exact Fame bonus for each consecutive team win.
- The maximum Fame bonus.
- Whether losing removes Fame.
- How much Fame is required for each Gladiator Rank.
We will update these values once the first Team Drive goes live and the full progression track becomes visible in-game.
What Are Gladiator Ranks?
Gladiator Ranks are the progression milestones for Team Drives. As you earn Fame, you advance through Gladiator Ranks and unlock event rewards.
They work similarly to the Checkpoints found in normal Competitive Drives, but Gladiator Rank is
not your Competitive Skill Rank. It does not replace Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster, or Champion.
The basic system is:
- Win matches to build Fame.
- Build larger Fame bonuses by continuing to win with the same team.
- Reach Gladiator Ranks as your Fame increases.
- Unlock Competitive Points and Player Card Frames while progressing.
- Complete the final challenge to fully finish the Team Drive.
The exact Gladiator Rank thresholds and individual rewards have not been released yet. Once the event starts, we will add the complete progression table here.
All Overwatch Team Drive Rewards
Team Drives keep Competitive Points as a progression reward, but replace normal Drive Signatures with a completely different cosmetic called
Player Card Frames.
There is also an additional reward for the fastest players to completely finish the event.
Competitive Points
Team Drives award
Competitive Points as you progress through Gladiator Ranks. These can be used with Overwatch's existing Competitive reward systems.
Blizzard has not yet confirmed the exact Competitive Point total available from the first Team Drive, so players should not assume that it will match the amount available from a standard Competitive Drive.
Player Card Frames
Instead of Drive Signatures around your player name, Team Drives introduce
Player Card Frames.
These frames appear wherever your Player Card is displayed and are earned by progressing through the Team Drive. They give Team Drives their own visual reward rather than reusing the normal Signature system.
Top 10,000 Dynamic Gladiator Title
The first
10,000 players to fully complete the Team Drive also receive a temporary dynamic Title showing the order in which they finished.
For example, a qualifying player could receive a Title showing that they were the #25, #1,240, or #9,999 player to finish the event. The faster you complete the Team Drive, the lower your completion number can be.
Blizzard says these Titles will be awarded
after the Team Drive ends. They are described as temporary rewards, so they should not be treated as permanent player Titles.
What Is The Trial in Overwatch Team Drives?
Reaching the end of your Gladiator Rank progression is
not enough to fully complete a Team Drive. Players must also pass a final performance requirement.
To finish the event, you need to
win 3 of your last 4 matches.

This makes the end of a Team Drive different from simply grinding enough progression points. Even after reaching the required Gladiator Rank, you still need a strong four-game stretch to finish the event.
Note: Blizzard's August 11 patch notes use both
"The Trail" and
"The Trial" when describing this final challenge. We currently use "The Trial" because Blizzard uses that wording when describing full event completion and the Top 10,000 reward. We will update the name if the in-game event uses a different spelling.
Can You Play Overwatch Team Drives Solo?
Yes, you can enter Team Drives as a solo player. You do not need a premade team or a group of friends to participate.
If you win, the system can automatically group you with the teammates who just won alongside you. You can then continue playing together and build the increasing Fame bonuses tied to consecutive team wins.
Blizzard does warn that Team Drives will be
much harder to complete solo if you avoid grouping. The event is designed around benefiting from other winning players, so repeatedly returning to solo queue removes one of the main progression advantages.
Can You Bring a Full Stack?
Yes. You can create your own group and enter Team Drives with friends instead of relying on auto-grouping after wins.
A reliable premade team may be especially useful because you already know who you are playing with and do not have to hope that successful random teammates continue queuing together.
How to Disable Team Drive Auto-Grouping
If you do not want Overwatch to automatically group you after Team Drive wins, Blizzard has added a setting to disable it.
Go to:
Social โ General โ Groups โ Enable Auto-Grouping on Team Drive Wins
Turn the setting
Off to stop automatically joining the other winning players after a match.
Team Drives vs Competitive Drives
Team Drives and standard Competitive Drives are both limited-time Competitive events, but they use different progression systems and offer different cosmetic rewards.

Do Team Drives Replace Competitive Drives?
No replacement has been announced. Blizzard currently describes Team Drives as an experimental system and directly compares its features with the existing Competitive Drives system.
For now, Team Drives should be treated as a separate type of limited Competitive event rather than a permanent replacement for normal Drives.
How to Complete Overwatch Team Drives Faster
Because the first Team Drive lasts only 72 hours, efficient progression matters. The event also rewards coordinated winning more directly than a normal Competitive Drive.
Play With a Reliable Team
Bringing your own group removes the uncertainty of finding strong random teammates and hoping they stay together. This becomes more important because consecutive team wins improve Fame progression.
Stay With Good Teammates After a Win
If your random team works well together, staying grouped is exactly what the Team Drive system is designed to reward. Leaving preserves your individual bonus, but you stop benefiting from the bonuses of the players you leave behind.
Do Not Constantly Rebuild Your Group
Team Drives reward continuity. If you repeatedly leave successful groups and start again, you may give up some of the progression advantage created by consecutive wins.
Start the Event Early
The entire first Team Drive lasts only three days. Starting early gives you more room for losing streaks, breaks, and the final completion challenge.
It is even more important if you want a chance at the
Top 10,000 dynamic Title, since that reward depends on how quickly you fully finish the event.
Leave Enough Time for The Trial
Do not treat reaching the final Gladiator Rank as the end of the grind. You still need to win 3 of your last 4 matches before the Team Drive counts as fully completed.
That means a player who reaches the final stage just before the event ends could still fail to finish if there is not enough time left to produce the required winning stretch.

Overwatch Team Drives FAQ
What are Team Drives in Overwatch?
Team Drives are experimental limited-time Competitive events that reward players for winning and continuing to play with successful teammates. Wins build Fame, Fame advances your Gladiator Ranks, and progressing through the event unlocks Competitive Points and Player Card Frames.
When does the first Overwatch Team Drive start?
The first Team Drive starts on
September 4, 2026 at 11 AM PT and ends on
September 7 at 11 AM PT. The event lasts exactly 72 hours.
What is Fame in Overwatch?
Fame is the progression system used during Team Drives. Consecutive wins while staying grouped with teammates provide an increasing Fame bonus and help you progress through Gladiator Ranks.
How much Fame do you get per win?
Blizzard has not yet published the exact amount of Fame earned from a normal Team Drive win or the full consecutive-win bonus curve. These values should become clear once the first Team Drive begins.
Do you lose Fame after losing a Team Drive match?
Blizzard has not officially explained whether a loss removes Fame or how any possible Fame penalty would work. We will update this section once the event is live rather than guessing based on the normal Competitive Drives system.
What are Gladiator Ranks?
Gladiator Ranks are Team Drive progression milestones reached by earning Fame. They are similar to normal Drive Checkpoints and are separate from your normal Competitive Skill Rank.
Do Team Drives use Hero Bans and Map Voting?
Yes. Blizzard has confirmed that
Hero Bans and Map Voting remain active during Team Drives. Team Drives change the progression and grouping systems around Competitive matches, but these normal Competitive match features still apply.
Can you play Team Drives solo?
Yes. Solo players can participate, and after a win they can automatically group with the teammates who won alongside them. Blizzard says completely avoiding groups will make the event harder to finish because you benefit less often from other winning players.
Can you play Team Drives with friends?
Yes. Players can create their own groups or full stacks and play the Team Drive together instead of relying on automatic grouping with random teammates.
What happens if you leave your Team Drive group?
You keep your individual Fame bonus when returning to solo queue, but you no longer benefit from the bonuses contributed by the winning teammates you left behind.
How do you complete The Trial in Team Drives?
You need to
win 3 of your last 4 matches. Reaching the end of Gladiator Rank progression alone does not fully complete the Team Drive.
What rewards do Team Drives give?
Blizzard has confirmed
Competitive Points and Player Card Frames as Team Drive rewards. The exact reward amounts and progression thresholds for the first event have not yet been published.
How do you get the Top 10,000 Team Drive Title?
You need to be one of the first
10,000 players to fully complete the Team Drive, including the final 3-out-of-4 win requirement. Qualifying players receive a temporary dynamic Title showing their completion order after the event ends.
Can you turn off Team Drive auto-grouping?
Yes. Go to
Social โ General โ Groups โ Enable Auto-Grouping on Team Drive Wins and turn the setting Off.
Do Stadium and Open Queue count for Team Drives?
Blizzard has not yet published a complete list of eligible queues for the first Team Drive. We will confirm whether Stadium, Role Queue, Open Queue, or other Competitive modes count once the event becomes available.
Are Team Drives replacing normal Competitive Drives?
No replacement has been announced. Blizzard currently describes Team Drives as an experimental system, while normal Competitive Drives remain a separate established event format.
