Ultron arrives in Marvel Rivals with the 2.5 update as a game-changing Strategist. His unique kit features abilities like Encephalo-Ray and Imperative: Patch that require strategic mastery to dominate opponents.
Ultron excels at long-range combat with his burning energy beam while simultaneously supporting teammates through drone-based healing. His ultimate ability summons multiple drones that fire Encephalo-Rays, creating devastating team fight potential by dealing damage and healing simultaneously.
This dual-threat capability has shifted the meta significantly, as Ultron's unique playstyle can single-handedly turn the tide of battles through his hybrid support-damage approach.
Ultron Release Date
Ultron joins Marvel Rivals on May 30, 2025, dropping right on the start of Season 2.5. You can play as him starting at 1:00 AM PST (4:00 AM EDT), when the Season 2.5 event kicks off.
Ultron's Story
Ultron made his first appearance in The Avengers #55 in 1968, created by Hank Pym. As a self-aware robot with a god complex, Ultron has been a formidable villain in the Marvel universe. Known for his intelligence and relentless pursuit of his creator's destruction, Ultron has appeared in numerous comics, TV shows, and films, most notably in the 2015 movie "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
Ultron Abilities
LCLICK - Encephalo-Ray
Ultron's primary attack is a charge-up energy beam similar to Apex Legends' Charge Rifle if you've played it. The beam charges while your reticle closes to a point, then fires a final high-damage burst that consumes ammo. Most damage comes from the final pulse rather than the initial beam.
Encephalo-Ray Tips
Use from high ground for maximum damage potential
Initiate fights with this ability before following up with Ultimate
LSHIFT - Dynamic Flight
Activates 8 seconds of free flight mode with a quick dash in your movement direction. Grants 50 overshields upon activation that last approximately 3 seconds before depleting. All abilities remain accessible during flight.
E - Imperative: Patch
Sends a healing drone to follow a targeted ally. The drone provides passive healing within its radius (shown by orange outline). Press E on different teammates to redirect the drone. The drone appears to be destructible and shows a UI icon above the healed character.
RCLICK - Imperative: Firewall
Summons small drones from Ultron's back that form a square formation around him. Provides 85 overshields to all allies within radius of both Ultron and any active Imperative Patch drone. Overshields last 3 seconds before slowly depleting.
Q - Rage of Ultron (Ultimate)
Spawns multiple drones behind Ultron that fire rapid Encephalo-Ray shots with explosive radius. Simultaneously heals allies and damages enemies. Excellent for team fights but leaves Ultron vulnerable to aerial threats like Iron Man.
Ultron Team-Up Ability
Stark Protocol (with Iron Man): Ultron gains access to Iron Man's Unibeam as a powerful piercing blast that damages enemies and heals allies simultaneously. This ability functions similarly to Invisible Woman's basic attack but provides consistent burst healing and damage.
How To Play Ultron in Marvel Rivals
Ultron is a flying Strategist with permanent flight capabilities and exceptional damage output. His movement dash ability and high damage potential make him unique among support heroes.
Core Strategy: Use Dynamic Flight to gain a bird's-eye view of objectives and gather battlefield information from long range. Place Imperative Patch on key teammates to maintain their health, then follow up with Imperative Firewall for additional overshields, making them nearly invincible.
Ultimate Usage: Rage of Ultron functions as both offensive and defensive tool. The spawned drones create multiple targets for enemies to focus on (similar to Loki's Illusion), contributing to battlefield chaos while simultaneously healing allies and damaging opponents.
Optimal Strategy - Pocket System: Ultron excels when paired with a single teammate. Choose one ally, stay close to them, and keep them alive throughout the entire match. This focused approach maximizes your impact while ensuring consistent value from your abilities.
Best Team Composition for Ultron
Diving Vanguards: Captain America, Bruce Banner, The Thing, Thor, and Venom all benefit greatly from Imperative Patch's long-range healing.
Flanking Duelists: Black Panther and Spider-Man often need extra healing support that Imperative Patch provides perfectly.
Flying Heroes: Iron Man, Human Torch, and Storm are typically hard for healers to reach, but Ultron's range makes healing them effortless.
How to Counter Ultron
Burst Damage Duelists:
Hela and Punisher: High burst damage can eliminate Ultron before he escapes
Spider-Man: Best flanker for one-combo killing Ultron
Relentless Chasers:
Iron Fist and Star-Lord: High mobility allows them to pursue Ultron even when he uses Dynamic Flight
Mister Fantastic: Stretchy arms can reach Ultron at long range, even while flying
The key to countering Ultron is preventing his escape with burst damage or matching his mobility with persistent chasers.
