How to Complete the Rex Infernus Easter Egg

The full Rex Infernus Main Quest steps are not available yet. The map and Easter Egg become playable on August 20 at 9:00 AM PT, and the Zombies community will begin solving the quest immediately after launch.

Treyarch has, however, revealed the three main objectives that lead toward completing the Rex Infernus story:

  • Cleanse the Shadowsmith places of power.
  • Find the Warden's inner sanctum.
  • Put an end to the Warden.

The exact items, locations, puzzles, interactions, and order required to complete these objectives have not been revealed. We will add the full walkthrough below as each part of the Easter Egg is confirmed.

Step 1: Rex Infernus Opening Steps

Status: Waiting for the Main Quest to go live.

This section will cover the opening setup, required map access, first quest interaction, and any items you need before progressing deeper into the Easter Egg.

Step 2: Cleanse the Shadowsmith Places of Power

Treyarch has specifically confirmed that cleansing the Shadowsmith places of power forms part of the Main Quest. What players must do at these locations and how many places of power exist have not yet been confirmed.

Once solved, this section will include every Shadowsmith location, the required interaction at each one, and the easiest order for completing them.

Step 3: Complete the Rex Infernus Main Quest Puzzles

Any puzzle combinations, symbols, codes, quest items, or Wonder Weapon requirements being shared before the map launches should be treated as unconfirmed. We will only add puzzle solutions here once they can be reproduced in-game.

For each puzzle, the guide will show exactly where to go, what you need, the correct solution, and how to confirm that the step has been completed.

Step 4: Find the Warden's Inner Sanctum

Finding the Warden's inner sanctum is another officially confirmed Main Quest objective. It is likely to be one of the final stages of the Easter Egg, but Treyarch has not revealed how players gain access to it.

We will update this section with the exact entrance, required quest items, activation process, and any point-of-no-return warning once the quest has been solved.

Step 5: Defeat the Warden

The final confirmed objective is to confront the Warden and end the threat facing the crew. The Warden's boss mechanics, phases, weak points, arena, and damage windows remain unknown before launch.

A complete boss strategy will be added here once the encounter has been beaten and verified.

How to Prepare for the Rex Infernus Main Quest

We do not yet know the perfect Rex Infernus loadout, so there is no reason to recommend a specific weapon before anyone has played the quest. There are still a few confirmed Season 05 Reloaded additions worth knowing about before your first attempt.

  • Widow's Wine: The new Perk-a-Cola can trigger web effects when you are under melee pressure, giving you another form of crowd control.
  • Fully Packed: This new Ultra GobbleGum instantly upgrades your current weapon to Pack-a-Punch Level III.
  • TR2: An Ultra-Rarity Marksman Rifle available from the Rex Infernus Mystery Box.
  • Olympia: An Ultra-Rarity Shotgun also available from the Mystery Box.
  • Titan Trap: A new map trap that draws in nearby zombies and smashes enemies caught in its attack.

Once the Main Quest is solved, we will replace general preparation advice with the best weapons, Perks, Ammo Mods, GobbleGums, equipment, and recommended setup for the Warden fight.

Rex Infernus Easter Egg Rewards

There are several Rex Infernus rewards, but not all of them come from simply completing the Main Quest. The Main Quest, Intel collection, and Mastery Challenge each have separate rewards.
Objective Reward
Complete the Main Quest Bloodthorn Wonder Weapon Skin, Calling Card and 10,000 XP
Complete Main Quest Before Directed Mode Unique Calling Card variant
Collect Required Intel Calling Card and 10,000 XP
Complete Rex Infernus Mastery Challenge Animated Calling Card and 10,000 XP
The Bloodthorn skin is a Wonder Weapon skin awarded for completing the Main Quest. It should not be confused with a separate Wonder Weapon unlock. More information about the Rex Infernus Wonder Weapon itself will be added after the map releases.

How to Get the Rex Infernus Early Completion Calling Card

Players who complete the Rex Infernus Main Quest before Directed Mode becomes available will receive a unique variant of the normal Main Quest Calling Card.

That makes the launch version of the Easter Egg more important for players who want every exclusive reward. Treyarch has not yet announced the Rex Infernus Directed Mode release date, so there is currently no confirmed deadline for earning the early completion variant.

We will add the exact deadline here once it is announced.

Can You Complete the Rex Infernus Easter Egg in Cursed Mode?

Yes. Rex Infernus supports both Standard and Cursed Mode, including the Main Quest.

Cursed Mode is designed to make the experience more difficult. On Rex Infernus, it includes:
  • No Main Quest guidance.
  • A limited HUD.
  • A starting pistol instead of the easier standard setup.

For your first Main Quest completion, Standard Mode will likely be the easier choice. Experienced players looking for a harder run can attempt the Easter Egg in Cursed Mode instead.

Rex Infernus Warden Boss Fight

The Warden is at the center of Rex Infernus and is the final confirmed target of the Main Quest. Treyarch's description tells players to find his inner sanctum before putting an end to him, strongly tying the Warden encounter to the end of the Easter Egg.

The actual boss fight has not been shown in full. We do not yet know the Warden's phases, attacks, health mechanics, weak points, or whether additional enemies appear during the encounter.

Once the map is live, this section will include the recommended loadout, boss phases, damage windows, positioning, survival strategy, and tips for both solo and co-op players.

New Enemies in Rex Infernus

Two new threats have been confirmed for the map, and both could make Main Quest steps more difficult if they begin spawning while you are solving puzzles.

Deathspinner

Deathspinners are fast enemies that can overwhelm players in groups. They also have a ranged web projectile that slows anyone it hits, which could make them especially dangerous when you are trying to complete an objective while training zombies.

Web Mother

The Web Mother is a new Elite enemy. It can lunge at players, use webbing to deal damage and slow movement, and cocoon zombies to turn them into environmental hazards.

Learning how quickly these enemies can be killed and which weapons work best against them will be part of our post-launch Main Quest testing.
