Want to reach Grand Marshal or High Warlord in WoW Forever, but aren't sure how the new PvP ranking system works? Unlike the original World of Warcraft, Forever separates Honor from Rank Points, making PvP progression easier to understand and plan.
This guide covers all 14 PvP ranks, Honor farming, weekly Rank Point caps, Battleground Marks, Epic gear upgrades, Darkspear Islands, and the fastest ways to reach Rank 14.
How PvP Works in WoW Forever
WoW Forever introduces a redesigned PvP ranking system that keeps the familiar 14 ranks from original World of Warcraft while removing the need to compete against other players for limited ranking positions.
Instead of climbing based on your standing against everyone else on your realm, you earn
Rank Points through PvP activities. These points build toward your next rank, with a weekly cap controlling how quickly players can progress.
The system has four main features:
- 14 PvP ranks: Progress from Private or Scout to Grand Marshal or High Warlord.
- Two separate resources: Earn Honor for purchases and Rank Points for progression.
- Weekly progression limits: Higher ranks become available as the season advances.
- Seasonal progression: PvP seasons include weekly objectives, rank rewards, and Legacy Challenges.
You no longer need to outfarm everyone on your realm to reach the highest ranks. However, reaching Rank 14 still requires consistent PvP participation over multiple weeks.
Blizzard also confirmed during its September developer Q&A that
rated PvP is not planned for launch. This is a seasonal rank progression system rather than a separate rated Arena or Rated Battleground ladder.
You can check your current progression by opening your Character Pane with
C and selecting the
Player vs. Player tab. This displays your current rank, Rank Points, and available rank rewards.
Honor vs Rank Points: What's the Difference?
The biggest change in WoW Forever PvP is that Honor and Rank Points serve completely different purposes.
Honor is the currency you spend on PvP items. Rank Points determine your PvP rank. You can earn both through PvP activities, but spending Honor does not lower your rank or remove any Rank Points.
| Feature | Honor | Rank Points |
| Primary purpose | Buying PvP items | Increasing PvP rank |
| Earned from | PvP kills, Battlegrounds, quests | Battlegrounds, PvP quests, seasonal tasks |
| Can you spend it? | Yes | No |
| Increases PvP rank? | No | Yes |
| Has a cap? | Currency holding cap | Weekly progression cap |
| Seasonal behavior | End-of-season treatment not fully confirmed | Seasonal rank progression resets |
For example, you might earn enough Rank Points to unlock Rank 8 while also collecting Honor from your Battleground matches. You can then spend that Honor on an eligible gear upgrade without losing any progress toward Rank 9.
This makes it possible to work toward better gear and higher ranks at the same time.
All WoW Forever PvP Ranks 1–14
WoW Forever features 14 PvP ranks, with different titles for the Alliance and Horde. Every new rank unlocks additional rewards, from faction cosmetics and utility items to Epic armor upgrades, mounts, and weapons.
The table below includes the current beta-derived Rank Point requirements and earliest possible unlock weeks.
| Rank |
Alliance |
Horde |
RP Needed |
Total RP |
Earliest Week |
| 1 | Private | Scout | 750 | 750 | 1 |
| 2 | Corporal | Grunt | 900 | 1,650 | 1 |
| 3 | Sergeant | Sergeant | 1,050 | 2,700 | 1 |
| 4 | Master Sergeant | Senior Sergeant | 1,200 | 3,900 | 2 |
| 5 | Sergeant Major | First Sergeant | 1,350 | 5,250 | 2 |
| 6 | Knight | Stone Guard | 1,500 | 6,750 | 3 |
| 7 | Knight-Lieutenant | Blood Guard | 1,650 | 8,400 | 4 |
| 8 | Knight-Captain | Legionnaire | 1,800 | 10,200 | 5 |
| 9 | Knight-Champion | Centurion | 1,950 | 12,150 | 6 |
| 10 | Lieutenant Commander | Champion | 2,100 | 14,250 | 7 |
| 11 | Commander | Lieutenant General | 2,350 | 16,600 | 7 |
| 12 | Marshal | General | 2,500 | 19,100 | 8 |
| 13 | Field Marshal | Warlord | 2,650 | 21,750 | 9 |
| 14 | Grand Marshal | High Warlord | 3,000 | 24,750 | 10 |
Note: The individual Rank Point thresholds, 24,750-point total, and earliest unlock weeks come from the beta interface and datamined progression data. Blizzard has confirmed the 14 ranks and weekly progression limits, but has not published a final numerical schedule.
According to current beta data, reaching Rank 14 requires
24,750 total Rank Points, with the earliest expected unlock in Week 10 of a PvP season. These figures should be rechecked against the live game.
However, Week 10 is an unlock limit, not a guarantee. You still need to earn the required points to reach Grand Marshal or High Warlord.
How Rank Points Work in WoW Forever
Rank Points are the main resource used to progress through the PvP ranking system. Every eligible activity adds to your seasonal progression total until you reach the current weekly cap.
How to Earn Rank Points
Blizzard has confirmed several sources of Rank Points:
- Participating in Battlegrounds.
- Completing eligible PvP quests.
- Playing highlighted Battlegrounds during holiday weeks for additional rewards.
- Completing weekly PvP Season Journey tasks.
Rank Points accumulate toward your next PvP rank and are not spent when purchasing rewards.
Weekly Rank Point Caps
The weekly cap determines the highest total Rank Points players can accumulate at a given stage of the season.
Based on current beta data, the expected progression schedule is:
| Season Week | Maximum Total Rank Points | Highest Available Rank |
| Week 1 | 2,700 | Rank 3 |
| Week 2 | 5,250 | Rank 5 |
| Week 3 | 6,750 | Rank 6 |
| Week 4 | 8,400 | Rank 7 |
| Week 5 | 10,200 | Rank 8 |
| Week 6 | 12,150 | Rank 9 |
| Week 7 | 16,600 | Rank 11 |
| Week 8 | 19,100 | Rank 12 |
| Week 9 | 21,750 | Rank 13 |
| Week 10+ | 24,750 | Rank 14 |
Beta-derived projection, not a finalized live-game schedule. Blizzard has confirmed a weekly rank cap but has not published this week-by-week numerical table.
The important distinction is that the cap increases with the season. Missing an earlier weekly target does not mean you permanently lose access to those Rank Points.
Do Rank Points Decay?
The beta system does not use the old weekly rank decay mechanic. Your accumulated seasonal Rank Points remain part of your progression rather than declining because other players earned more.
This is one of the biggest improvements for players who cannot spend every day farming PvP.
How Honor Works in WoW Forever
Honor is the main currency for buying PvP equipment and other eligible rewards. Unlike Rank Points, Honor is designed to be earned and spent throughout your PvP journey.
How to Earn Honor
You can earn Honor from several PvP activities:
- Enemy player kills: Defeating opposing faction players in eligible PvP content.
- Battleground matches: Participating in organized PvP and completing matches.
- PvP quests: Completing quests tied to PvP activities.
- Battleground holiday weeks: Earning increased Honor in highlighted Battlegrounds.
- Season Journey tasks: Completing weekly PvP objectives.
Blizzard has adjusted Honor rewards across Battlegrounds to make farming more consistent. This means players should have more freedom to choose different maps instead of repeatedly farming Alterac Valley for efficiency.
What Is the Honor Cap?
The October 1 beta update increased the Honor holding cap from 15,000 to
25,000 Honor. This is a limit on how much you can hold, not a weekly earning target.
Blizzard also raised the Honor price of
most PvP gear and upgrade tokens by about 50% in that beta update. The higher holding cap was introduced to support these more expensive purchases. See
Blizzard's official beta development notes for the change.
Avoid sitting at the Honor cap if you have useful purchases available. Item prices and limits may still change, so check the current in-game vendor prices before making a long-term farming plan.
How Do Battleground Marks of Honor Work?
Some PvP items need
Battleground-specific Marks of Honor as well as Honor. Marks are earned from Battleground matches, so check which Marks your target item needs before choosing what to farm.
Beta data lists three Marks for a win and one for a loss. These match rewards are subject to change, and some Marks can also be turned in for Battleground reputation quests. Regular PvP gear vendors are found in the Alliance and Horde capital cities, while Darkspear Islands has separate faction reputation vendors.
What Should You Spend Honor On?
Your spending priorities depend on your character and PvP goals. For most players, a sensible order is:
- Useful blue-quality PvP equipment upgrades.
- Eligible Epic gear upgrade materials once their rank requirements are met.
- Important PvP utility items.
- Cosmetic rewards, mounts, and other optional purchases.
Prioritize items that improve your performance in the content you actually play. A useful gear upgrade can make future Honor and Rank Point farming easier.
All WoW Forever PvP Rank Rewards
Each PvP rank unlocks the
ability to buy specific rewards from PvP vendors. Reaching a rank does not automatically place the gear, mount, or item in your bags. You still need the relevant Honor, and some items also require Battleground Marks.
The early ranks focus on utility and faction items, while later ranks provide access to Epic-quality equipment upgrades, mounts, and weapons.
Blizzard has confirmed the following reward progression:
| Rank | Reward | Reward Type |
| 1 | Faction Tabard | Cosmetic |
| 2 | PvP Trinket | Utility |
| 3 | Cloaks | Equipment |
| 4 | Necklace | Equipment |
| 5 | Combat Potions | Consumables |
| 6 | Faction Tabard | Cosmetic |
| 7 | Battle Standard | Utility |
| 8 | Epic Bracers & Belt Upgrade Tokens | Epic Upgrades |
| 9 | Epic Boots Upgrade Token | Epic Upgrade |
| 10 | Epic Gloves Upgrade Token | Epic Upgrade |
| 11 | PvP Mounts | Mounts |
| 12 | Epic Legs & Shoulders Upgrade Tokens | Epic Upgrades |
| 13 | Epic Chest & Helm Upgrade Tokens | Epic Upgrades |
| 14 | Epic PvP Weapons | Weapons |
Ranks 1–7: Utility and Early Rewards
The first seven ranks unlock a combination of faction cosmetics, equipment, consumables, and utility items. These rewards help establish your PvP character before the Epic armor progression begins.
Ranks 8–13: Epic Gear Upgrades
Rank 8 introduces the first Epic armor upgrade options. Higher ranks unlock additional armor slots, with Rank 13 completing access to the major Epic armor upgrades listed in the ranking system.
You do not need Rank 14 to obtain every piece of Epic PvP armor.
Rank 11: PvP Mounts
Rank 11 unlocks faction PvP mounts. This makes it an important milestone for collectors who want prestigious PvP rewards without necessarily pushing all the way to Rank 14.
Rank 14: Grand Marshal and High Warlord Weapons
The final PvP rank unlocks Epic-quality PvP weapons. Grand Marshal and High Warlord remain the most recognizable titles in the ranking system and represent the final progression goal for dedicated PvP players.
WoW Forever PvP Gear Progression & Emboldened Seals
WoW Forever changes how players acquire Epic PvP gear. Instead of treating blue and Epic equipment as completely separate purchases, the system uses upgrades that turn eligible blue PvP gear into Epic-quality equipment.
Step 1: Buy Blue PvP Gear With Honor
The first step is collecting Honor for your blue-quality PvP equipment, plus any Battleground Marks required by the item. Blizzard confirms that the blue set does not require progressing through the higher PvP ranks first.
This gives players a starting point for PvP gearing even if they have not reached the Epic upgrade ranks.
Step 2: Reach the Required PvP Rank
Epic armor upgrades become available at specific ranks. For example, Rank 8 unlocks wrist and belt upgrades, while Rank 12 unlocks shoulder and leg upgrades.
Your rank determines which upgrades you are eligible to purchase.
Step 3: Obtain the Corresponding Emboldened Seal
Once you meet the rank requirement, you can purchase the Emboldened Seal needed for the matching equipment slot. Seals cost Honor, and most upgrade token costs rose by approximately 50% in the October 1 beta balance pass.
Step 4: Upgrade Blue Gear to Epic
Use the required blue PvP item and matching Emboldened Seal to obtain its Epic-quality version.
Blizzard is also introducing new and reworked PvP equipment for specializations that had limited options in the original game. Shamans, for example, will have separate gear options for healing, melee, and spellcasting roles.
For the official rank rewards and upgrade rules, see
Blizzard's WoW Forever PvP progression overview.

All WoW Forever Battlegrounds
Battlegrounds are a major part of WoW Forever PvP progression. They provide organized faction combat while contributing to your Honor, Rank Points, Battleground reputation, and other PvP objectives.
Warsong Gulch
Warsong Gulch is a classic capture-the-flag Battleground. Two teams fight to capture the opposing faction's flag while protecting their own.
Coordinated movement, defending flag carriers, and controlling important areas are essential for success.
Arathi Basin
Arathi Basin focuses on capturing and holding resource bases. Teams earn points by controlling objectives, and the side that reaches the victory requirement first wins.
It rewards map awareness, rotations, and coordinated defense rather than simply chasing enemy kills.
Alterac Valley
Alterac Valley is a large-scale Battleground featuring objectives, faction NPCs, and major battles between Alliance and Horde forces.
Although it was historically popular for Honor farming, Blizzard has adjusted Honor gains across Battlegrounds to reduce the advantage of choosing Alterac Valley solely for efficiency.
Darkspear Islands
Darkspear Islands is a new 15v15 Battleground introduced in WoW Forever. It combines controlling bases with capturing a central flag.
The Battleground features four capture points, with the first team to reach
2,000 points winning the match.
Teams earn points by holding bases. They can also capture the central flag and return it to one of their controlled bases to gain additional points.
Darkspear Islands supports players from
levels 30–60 and includes faction reputation rewards.
How to Queue for Darkspear Islands
Speak to a
Battlemaster in a major capital city to queue for Darkspear Islands. You can also use a portal at your faction's Barrens base: Merchant Coast for the Horde or Northwatch for the Alliance.
Darkspear Islands Reputation & Rewards
Darkspear Islands introduces two PvP factions with separate reputation progression:
- Darkspear Raiders: Horde.
- Theramore Expeditionary Force: Alliance.
Each faction provides reputation rewards, including trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons, and armor pieces. The specific items you can buy depend on your standing with that faction.
Darkspear Islands Reputation Rewards by Standing
Current beta vendor data groups the rewards into the following reputation tiers:
| Reputation | Example Rewards |
| Friendly | Faction trinkets |
| Honored | Cloaks, rings, necklaces |
| Revered | Off-hand items and one-handed or two-handed weapons |
| Exalted | Gloves, shoulders, and the faction tabard questline |
Example rewards and their reputation tiers are based on current beta vendor data. Blizzard has confirmed the factions and reward types, but individual vendor inventories may change.
How to Earn Darkspear Islands Reputation
Players can build reputation through Battleground-related quests and by turning in the required
Darkspear Islands Marks of Honor for reputation quests.
The Horde faction base is at Merchant Coast in the Barrens, while Alliance players can visit the Theramore Expeditionary Force base at Northwatch. These locations provide access to faction vendors, quests, and entry to the Battleground.
Exalted Reputation Rewards
Reaching Exalted with your faction unlocks a short questline that rewards an exclusive faction tabard.
Darkspear Islands reputation also contributes to the PvP Legacy System. This gives completion-focused players another reason to progress beyond basic Battleground victories.
You can read more about the map, objectives, and reputation rewards in
Blizzard's official Darkspear Islands overview.
PvP Season Journey & Legacy Points
WoW Forever adds an additional progression path through the PvP Season Journey, also known as the Field of Honor.
During each season, players can complete weekly PvP objectives to earn Honor and Rank Points. Selected Journey milestones also grant Legacy Points, which contribute to account-wide progression.
How Many Legacy Points Can You Earn From PvP?
Blizzard has confirmed
12 PvP Legacy Points across three categories:
| Legacy Challenge | Requirements | Legacy Points |
| PvP Ranks | Reach Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13, and 14 | 5 |
| Battleground Reputation | Reach Exalted with all four Battleground reputations | 4 |
| Field of Honor | Complete Season Journey quests for Weeks 4, 7, and 10 | 3 |
| Total | All PvP Legacy Challenges | 12 |
Legacy Points are shared across eligible characters on your Battle.net account and can be spent on Legacy Perks, while your accumulated points also unlock account-wide rewards. Blizzard confirms that these 12 PvP Legacy Challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore.
Which Legacy Perks Help With PvP?
One particularly useful Resourcefulness perk is
For Great Honor, which increases Honor earned from PvP activities.
The
Diplomat perk can also help with reputation progression, making it useful for players pursuing Battleground reputation rewards and Legacy Challenges.
PvP Legacy progression is separate from your seasonal Rank Points. Blizzard has also confirmed that Journey objectives connected to Legacy Challenges remain available to complete during future seasons.
Fastest Way to Progress in WoW Forever PvP
The most efficient PvP strategy is not necessarily farming one Battleground repeatedly. Because Rank Points have weekly caps and Honor is a separate currency, your goal should be to work toward several objectives during the same play sessions.
1. Prioritize Your Weekly Rank Point Cap
If your main goal is Grand Marshal or High Warlord, Rank Points should be your primary progression target.
Work toward the highest available Rank Point total each week, especially if you want to reach Rank 14 as soon as the season allows.
2. Complete PvP Season Journey Tasks
Weekly PvP Journey tasks award useful progression resources. Completing them while working toward your rank can reduce the need for separate farming later.
Pay particular attention to the Journey milestones that award Legacy Points.
3. Use Battleground Holiday Weeks
Highlighted Battlegrounds grant increased Honor and Rank Points during their holiday weeks.
When possible, schedule longer PvP sessions around these bonuses rather than spending all your time on regular Battleground farming.
4. Combine Honor and Reputation Farming
Instead of farming Honor, Rank Points, and reputation independently, look for activities that advance multiple goals at once.
For example, participating in Darkspear Islands can contribute to Honor, PvP rank progress, and faction reputation objectives.
5. Spend Honor Before Reaching the Cap
Honor is a currency you should actively use. Once you have enough for a useful gear piece or upgrade, check any required Battleground Marks and make the purchase instead of sitting at the Honor cap. Remember that most gear and upgrade tokens became about 50% more expensive during beta testing.
6. Play With an Organized Group
Organized teams can coordinate objectives, defend important positions, and avoid the confusion common in uncoordinated matches.
Although group play does not guarantee faster Honor or Rank Point gains, better coordination can improve your chances of winning and completing Battleground objectives efficiently.
7. Avoid Farming Rank Points Beyond the Weekly Cap
Once you reach the current Rank Point cap, additional PvP sessions will not push your rank past that week's progression limit.
At that point, shift your attention toward Honor farming, Battleground reputation, equipment upgrades, or Legacy objectives until the cap increases.

How Long Does It Take to Reach Rank 14 in WoW Forever?
Based on the current beta progression schedule, the earliest possible Rank 14 unlock is
Week 10 of the PvP season.
However, there are three different factors to consider:
- Calendar time: The weekly progression cap prevents Rank 14 from being available immediately.
- Rank Points: The beta ranking interface displays 24,750 Rank Points for Rank 14, although that total may change before launch.
- Actual playtime: The number of hours required depends on PvP activities, match results, quests, bonuses, and your efficiency.
Reaching the maximum weekly cap consistently gives you the earliest possible opportunity to unlock Rank 14, but the game does not automatically award you Rank Points when a new week begins.
Can You Reach Rank 14 if You Start Late?
The seasonal cap increases over time. This means players who begin later in a season can still work toward the higher cumulative cap rather than being permanently restricted to the first week's progression total.
However, catching up may require more concentrated farming, and you must still finish before the relevant season ends.
How Many Hours Does Rank 14 Require?
There is not yet enough reliable live gameplay data to provide an accurate hours-to-Rank-14 estimate.
The actual time will depend on Rank Point rewards from different activities, match duration, holiday bonuses, and how effectively players complete weekly objectives.
For now, treat Week 10 as the earliest expected calendar unlock based on beta data, not as a guaranteed completion date.
How WoW Forever PvP Season Resets Work
PvP ranks operate on a seasonal progression system. Players work toward rank rewards during each season, while the weekly cap controls how quickly they can move through the 14 ranks.
When a new PvP season begins, the seasonal ranking track is expected to reset, allowing players to begin a new progression cycle.
However, several details require final confirmation:
- Rank Points: Seasonal Rank Point progress resets between PvP seasons.
- Honor: Blizzard has not fully explained whether unused Honor carries over unchanged.
- Purchased gear: The exact treatment of older seasonal rewards should be checked against final rules.
- Legacy Points: Completed Legacy progression belongs to the account-wide Legacy System rather than the temporary seasonal rank track.
- Season Journey: Legacy-related objectives remain available in future seasons according to Blizzard.
Players should avoid assuming that every PvP resource behaves the same way at a season transition.
Until Blizzard confirms all reset details, spending important resources before the end of a season may be preferable to holding them without a clear purpose.
WoW Forever PvP FAQ
Does Honor Increase Your PvP Rank?

Yes. The blue PvP set can be purchased using Honor without progressing through the higher ranks required for Epic upgrades.
Which Battleground Gives the Most Honor?
Blizzard has normalized Honor rewards across Battlegrounds to reduce major efficiency differences. The best choice will depend on actual match completion times, results, and holiday bonuses once reliable live data becomes available.
Does PvP Rank Reset Every Season?

How Do You Get Battleground Marks of Honor?
You earn Battleground-specific Marks by participating in matches. Beta data lists three Marks for a win and one for a loss. Some gear purchases and repeatable reputation quests require these Marks.
Do You Need to Play on the PvP Ruleset to Queue for Battlegrounds?
No. Players on the Normal ruleset can also take part in Battlegrounds. Blizzard says Battlegrounds may include players from multiple non-Hardcore rulesets, while Hardcore remains separate.
What Happens to Honor at Season Reset?
Blizzard has not yet published every detail of unused Honor treatment at season transitions. Players should check the final seasonal reset rules before deciding to save large amounts of Honor.
Does Legacy Progress Reset Every Season?
Legacy progression is an account-wide system separate from seasonal Rank Points. Completed Legacy Challenges and earned Legacy Points are designed as persistent progression.
Is There Rated PvP in WoW Forever?
No rated PvP is planned for launch. Blizzard confirmed this during its September developer Q&A. WoW Forever focuses on Battlegrounds and its seasonal 14-rank progression system rather than a Rated Arena or Rated Battleground ladder.
Can You Boost Your WoW Forever PvP Rank?
Yes. Boosting Factory offers WoW Forever PvP services covering supported rank progression, Honor farming, PvP gear, Battleground reputation, and related objectives.
You can select the progression you need through the
WoW Forever PvP Boost page.
Final Thoughts
WoW Forever gives players a more predictable path toward Grand Marshal and High Warlord without the harsh competition and rank decay associated with the original PvP ranking system.
The most important thing to remember is that Honor and Rank Points are separate. Earn Rank Points to climb the 14-rank track, spend Honor on gear, and use Battlegrounds, holiday bonuses, and Season Journey tasks to progress efficiently.
If your goal is Rank 14, focus on reaching the available weekly caps while collecting gear, reputation, and Legacy rewards along the way.
